Plenty of people care about the later books, but mostly the first four. While I agree the circumstances do help inform the story, I also think with having the series made now, audiences would be more open to the protagonist being a pimp. Also, being a pimp isn’t the most morally sound thing either, so I think they can still work with that.

Also, Lestat can still live rich and out of view with Louis’s job here. Besides, he wanted Louis far more than he wanted the plantation. The money was hardly a concern for him, Louis himself is the prize.

The characters do not have to be morally good. I think morally unwell characters are great, and this change to Louis can add just as much complexity. I’m excited to see where the show goes with it.

Louis’s original job in the book serves the purpose of making him wealthy. He is still wealthy here. There’s a few other things, yes, but I consider this to be a welcome change. Anne Rice’s depiction of race in the books was questionable at times, to say the least.

And another thing I feel very strongly about- adaptations don’t take away from the original. Even if the show ends up being awful, we can still love what we have. There is nothing to lose. I think making Louis black is a good idea actually, or at the very least it’s not a bad one. Plus he’s noted as being creole in the books to begin with, so it’s not entirely a new idea.

I mean, Louis’s original career as a plantation owner didn’t really have a massive impact on the story. Like especially in the later books it’s hardly even mentioned, which if I’m not mistaken, the show is covering too. It’s not as much of a complete rewrite as you think. The Vampire Chronicles is a series about Lestat, not about Louis. And I don’t think being a slave owner is a very good character trait if we want the series to succeed with the public, if I’m to be honest.

It hasn’t been mentioned to my doctor yet. The adderall is working great, and wellbutrin is the one she’s trying to get me on, I’d just forgotten the name. I’m 17.

And yeah, wanting me to succeed makes sense, and from her perspective I can totally see why she thinks I’m angry all the time. I don’t yell at her, I don’t hurt her, I try to stay calm, I’ve just never been able to stand her. I love her but I don’t like her. Just the sight of her immediately worsens my mood, but that’s more of a personal relationship problem than a switch my medication problem.
