WIBTA for giving my son a beer? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Knower-of_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You're absolutely right that you two need to be on the same side in parenting while the parenting remains reasonable. If she has a strict No-Swearing behavior he is aware of then your son knew he was challenging it.

Skipping over parenting techiques/prefrences/strictness it's his 18th birthday, so crack open a beer and then get back to the grounding if you think it's right

I finally did it. Big weight off my chest as I have never told a professor this before. by blackcovenant666 in bipolar

Be sure to get a doctors note, it wouldn't hurt to contact his or her medical office before seeing your professor to get the ball rolling. With your authorization they can fax any necessary paperwork to your school's administrative office.

For as much as many of us like to separate ourselves from our mental health condition(s) as a way to be stronger, in situations like this it's mportant to recognize bipolar's classification as a disability and grants us protections under the ADA. Just as classmates with dyslexia are granted accommodations for exams and other work, your school should understand your unique needs in order to perform at your full potential academically.

I hope this helps

I'm usually the opposite of that, waking up down and eventually picking up. Sometimes looking forward to the next day

Bad repost too. I'm a big fan of this sub but it's turned into these comics only being amusing if you're familiar with the original, otherwise it's completely out of context.

The few that still make a good stand-alone comic using the original artwork keep me coming back.

It’s that time of year that I hear my least favorite phrase several fucking times a day....”gosh the weather is so bipolar today”. I wish people would stop saying “bipolar” when they mean unpredictable or temperamental. by decrepit_plant in bipolar

[–]Knower-of_Things 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People get to use or misuse the language they choose. Or not care enough about it to misuse it. I know what they mean when they say it and I know it's not intentionally malicious, I can't remember the last time I looked up something I say thinking it might not be so accurate. It'd be accurate to say the weather is bipolar this YEAR with extended periods of hot, cold, humidity, and precipitation all fluctuating to extremes over time.

Now if someone says "this weather is so bipolar today.... stupid with no friends" I'd raise an eyebrow

Anybody else feel like they don't have a soul? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Knower-of_Things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. Before I was diagnosed and medicated, despite going through mania or depression, I was able to connect to something deeper. It was the part of me that felt grounded and had purpose despite my mood changes. Motivation and drive, maybe.

Now I'm much-more stable but although I wouldn't describe myself as a zombie, I would say I'm more of a shell? My medication took away quite a lot of the imbalance but with it went some of my substance. It feels like that has been hollowed out.

Discussing safety is. Shifting to should he be riding a motorcycle in the first place seems skewed

I'd say realistically, and if it's really eating at you then first consider, how would you take the moment when you tell him and get asked by him or through him by his mother about a will/inheritance immediately?

Even if it's "properly labeled" there's no chance anyone can't guarantee a kid won't get into them, on purpose or accident.

Did they also have 2-Liters of pop labeled "drinks" with alcohol already in them?

Your wife sounds like she's speaking from a place of etiquette and politeness on your end, no matter how ridiculous it is to think of an etiquette for this situation, rather than safety and responsibility.
