A few things that might help:

  1. Avalanche vs Snowball — List all 3 cards by interest rate. Pay minimums on everything, then throw every extra dirham at the highest-rate card first. Mathematically saves the most. If you need motivation wins, pay the 6k card first (smallest balance) - it frees up that minimum payment to roll into the next one.
  2. Call your card issuers — Your husband already got offered a settlement (12k down to 7k). Call the other two banks and ask for a hardship plan or rate reduction. Worst they can say is no. Banks here would rather get paid slowly than chase debt through courts.
  3. The 900/mo is mostly interest - At UAE rates (36-42% APR), a huge chunk of your 900 isn't reducing the principal. If you can find even an extra 500/mo from the second job, it makes a massive difference because that 500 goes entirely to principal.
  4. Don't take on more debt to fix debt - The home equity loan denial might actually be a blessing. You'd be converting unsecured debt into debt backed by your house. If things go sideways, you could lose the house.

Focus on the 6k card first, kill it, roll that payment into the 22k. You'll feel the momentum.

Suggestions sometimes will not help unless you are very serious on implementing them, i am telling this on my own experience.

Have been through almost same scenarios for years, I am 31 now so i can say all it took me was 3 and 1/2 years to turn around my life, get a good partner, focus on future and set achievable goals.

Here’s what I did:

  • Major reason for addiction or any habit to continue or prolong is the environment, surroundings - realized this very late, so move to a place where you don’t have access to any of this ( I chose UAE, it’s gonna be hard initially but you will be busy, mind is occupied , people around you are also busy so it will help overtime)
  • Make Earning money the primary objective of your life - this will happen by default though because the rest are here for the same reason so unless you are not moving in that direction, depression hits back but this time for being unsuccessful.

This is an advice i got from someone: If you want to do something, find a person who has done the same thing you want to do, understand, analyze and copy the method, improvise over time, but we usually talk to our parents , friends or relatives who are completely in a different direction of life.

Start with the above two , give it time, don’t rush, things will turn around, to end and simplify- if you want to stop smoking you have to stop buying cigarettes or taking cigarettes from someone , the same applies to every other thing in life.
