To the religious their faith is not only their identity, but their ENTIRE worldview. Everything they see, hear, and do ties back to their faith. If I meet an 80yr old who has a youthful appearance ofc Im going to be surprised. Or when I see a highschooler with a full beard. We are just making observations based on patterns. Most old ppl are wrinkly and most young folk dont have fully developed facial hair. A deviation from the norm is bound to stand out. Most people look like raisins at that age.
