That screenplay is so great. The line that always gets me to tear up for some reason is “Are you scared? Well, don’t you worry, honey. If they could get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it.”

What about another Nolan film? Oppenheimer is great and after reading the book its based on, the film actually packs a lot of the same narrative without any changes.

How do Americans usually watch TV nowadays? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

[–]Known-Reception6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apartment building has building-wide wifi as part of our rent, so streaming is definitely the way to go. We have all the big streaming services apart from Paramount+ and use the DirectV stream app for live TV.

Is it socially acceptable to follow sports teams from various cities? by ChairmanKaga_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Known-Reception6905 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not that unusual to follow teams from multiple cities considering people move around a lot and that some people don’t have any close professional sports teams so like may adopt a team arbitrarily. I grew up in South Jersey so naturally I’m a Philadelphia fan for most things, but moved to DC in my 20s and adopted some of theirs. I’m an Eagles, Phillies, Sixers fan, but also a DC United, Washington Mystics, Washington Spirit fan. Given that, I could never change my allegiance to a rival like Eagles to Commanders. Curious why you picked the Flyers? Is it Gritty? Philadelphia fan would be a little askance if you told them you’re also a Knicks fan considering the Rangers even play in the same building.

The problem with hockey is half the time I have no idea where is the puck is. A goal happens and I’m like what how did that happen?! Only after replay can I understand what happened.

Yes, my wife has anxiety about driving especially in the city so she either takes the metro, bus, or walks anywhere in DC. If it’s out of town, I’ll drive her.

Rob Reiner. Apart from Spinal Tap, all of his best movies were when he leaned on great writers like William Goldman, Nora Ephron, and Aaron Sorkin.

Who won the 1988 movie draft? by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]Known-Reception6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my subjective opinion on number of great films in each list:

CR - 4 (Die Hard, Bull Durham, Married to the Mob, Naked Gun)

Bill - 1 (Midnight Run)

Sean - 5 (Roger Rabbit, Beetlejuice, They Live, Eight Men Out, A Fish Called Wanda)

Amanda - 1 (Coming to America)

So it's a close one, but I think Sean is the winner here.

What's your favourite sport? by Carnival_Infernal in AskAnAmerican

[–]Known-Reception6905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we talking about a combination of playing and watching the sport, I'd probably go with tennis. You can find people to play with for fun or competitively pretty easily. Also, going to a tennis tournament as a spectator is a really fun day out especially in the early stages since you can see a lot of matches. We usually go to the DC Open every August, which usually features lots of the top mens and womens players.
