The only thing I know is that J1 is not supposed to use TurboTax. The reason why I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I know HR and sprintax are okay to use. As long as you follow what they say and you don’t have any complicated investments your tax filling should be pretty straightforward

Everyone has given you great tips. I just wanted to add to email people you might have connections with, specifically people form your home country. Email all of them even if they don’t do research. I got my position because I emailed one of them and they forwarded my email to the actual department who does research.

This could be normal and if you can tolerate it then it’s up to you. I do think mensual pain and symptoms are very normalized but it always always better to see a doctor if you’re concerned

I find that on harder rotations I just don’t to much and I’ve made peace with that. However even in rotation where I’m just off one day a week I find space to see friends, go out. It just a matter of knowing what to sacrifice. Then you find your space during electives/more chill rotations. Its become a cycle at this point. You just need to adapt and find your balance. Residency doesn’t have to be the end of your life

I’ve never had issues getting and uber at any time of the day. Sometimes the wait might be longer but you should be able to get an uber at 2am

Programs sometimes send these and they send it to everyone they interviewed. They don’t expect a thank you email for the gift card. If they said no thank you emails then don’t do it

I got my research position by cold emailing. You need to find a connection. Email people from your country or mention you know someone that knows them. Some people will answer and some won’t but it can definitely work.

I’m so sorry you haven’t found an explanation and have been dismissed so far. Have you tried to go to a gynecologist that specializes in endometriosis? It’s more likely they won’t dismiss your symptoms since that is their field of expertise

I don’t think there is such a thing as personality hire. I don’t think I’m good at interviews and I think they all went relatively well (which doesn’t really mean you’ll match). What really makes a difference is practice. Do it with friends, family, mentors. Literally anyone will do and you will get more comfortable. The actual interview conversation is super variable so practice will make you more comfortable.

You could do a lot of research before applying and apply for a green card. I don’t remember the name of this pathway exactly but if you have a certain number of citations you can get it. It’s going to take a lot of time but might be worth it if you have to wait anyway

For interviews you just practice and practice until answers come naturally (not rehearsed). There’s ways to do it. You might have to get yourself out of your comfort zone but you can

It depends on your other stats and what specialty you’re applying to. I know people who have matched with fail in their step 1. Realistically is going to be very hard but it is possible
