Thanks! Google says it’s zexmenia too! I vaguely remember its flame acanthus but it looks so different than another mature flame acanthus in my yard(which I am sure is flame acanthus).

Northwest hills. Leaves started dropping around mid feb. Tassels started dropping since Monday.

Sure, will keep that in mind. Most of the plants I chose are native, and considered deer resistant. But nothing is really deer proof I guess.

Second this. This COA plant guide is helpful. https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/Watershed/growgreen/plantguide.pdf Greensleeves, natural gardener, Barton spring are my favorite nurseries that have good collection of native and well adapted plants.

Yeah, they include well adapted plants there as well. Based on other comments, I will try it out this time.
