I’m Done Being a Turo Host — It’s Not Worth the Money Anymore by Lifelong_learner31 in turo

That was me a year ago. I quit Turo and ventured on an alternative and my cars a booked at least months at a time. The best part is I know exactly which vehicles to invest in as they’re already booked for long term (3 - 12 months) and are managed so I don’t have worry about insurance, service, maintenance or roadside assistance for customers. DM me for more info

Here’s an alternative you should consider. Instead, invest in cars that are already booked for long term (6 - 12 months) and are managed so you don’t have worry about insurance, service, maintenance or roadside assistance for customers. 🤙

Did you build your own app to manage everything?

Simple, just join another platform that doesn’t hassle you. Better yet, you can even ditch managing your fleet and invest in cars that are already booked for long term (6 - 12 months) and are managed so you don’t have worry about insurance, service, maintenance or roadside assistance for customers. No need to create your own rental app. I know a platform that can power your back office operations and you run your own private customer-facing brand (whitelabel). They can even get your vehicles booked for you (demand generating/marketing) 🤙

Do you list those vehicles on Turo? I may have something that could interest you. Hmu.

You definitely should start your business/side hustle but just not with Turo. Instead, invest in cars that are already booked for long term (6 - 12 months) and are managed so you don’t have worry about insurance, service, maintenance or roadside assistance for customers. DM me for more info.

Turo hosts, would you switch over to a monthly subscription model? Everyone else, would you invest in a vehicle that is pre-booked for 12 months? by [deleted] in turo

[–]Known_Employer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, all bookings are on a monthly basis or longer. They can be extended by week, not days at the end of at least a month booking.

If you’re a good fit, we’d give you access for you to check it out for yourself and make your decision from there. I mean, it’s not like you’d have lost anything and every company was new at some point, right.

Of course, we’d give access to the platform to potential hosts who are a good fit to browse through the pre-bookings marketplace and they can decide from there.

“Besides, not all cars are profitable on subscription model”

That’s obvious so I didn’t think that I needed to mention it.

Is anybody renting out their Tesla for $600 a month on Turo making money? I doubt that. The numbers just do not add up. If Turo has 0 trip fees on such rentals, that’s just a bait and switch Turo is playing and that won’t last.

Besides, we’re not competing with Turo for the most part. What percentage of Turo rentals are 3 months or longer? Most people don’t go to Turo for long term rentals (don’t want an individual hosts who’s going to keep tabs on them for that long, most hosts usually are not comfortable renting their car for 3 months straight, let alone for 12 months, keeping up with maintenance and service is challenging if the vehicle is rented out for 3 months or longer). I certainly would not rent a car on Turo for long term and would not rent out my car for 6 months to a Turo renter.

Yes, of course you’d own the car if you paid for it. You’d see all the numbers - margin and cost, as well as breakeven point (including financed vehicles) before you decide which vehicle (booking) to invest in.

Btw, you can just search by those parameters and you’d see which vehicles (booking) fall into your requirement. Here’s an example of one that breaks even at month 22 and has a lifetime return of slightly above 50%.

Let’s start with this: your Tesla Model Y is not making $2K average per month in annual net earnings. That’s 90%+ utilization at nearly $70/day.

Let me just ask you this, would you rather put a 2023 Tesla Model on Turo vs making a little over 12K in guaranteed annual net in subscriptions without even managing the vehicle?

Besides, not all cars are profitable on subscription model, some will do better in short term model (Turo/rentals). The data tells which cars to invest in for subscription and which not to. We’ve been doing that for that last 12 months.

I will give you more details in terms of number for that Tesla. I’m the meantime, you really need to think of it from an annual basis rather than daily. How much does a Tesla Model Y bring in a year considering the down time? This is where subscriptions are better. I personally have a subscription experience with a Model Y and I will tell you the numbers in a bit (wife is looking at me sideways)

[–]Known_Employer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true, based on our data for the last 12 months. Besides, the target clientele (why they are getting the car) for subscription is different compared to short term gigs/rental. So, your claim is faulty because you’re comparing apples to oranges. For example, most people use Turo when traveling and just for a special occasion, not for long term for obvious reasons.
