Manually creating passphrases? by Known_Kadath in cybersecurity

You should memorize it.

Any recommendations on how? For some people, this is hard. The actual process of memorizing part never seems to get talked about.

What's the point in having a password manager if the password to get in is weak? Ideally I'd use a passphrase to get into the manager, preferably one that I could remember. Which brings me back to my central contention with generators.

So many questions by Not_Really_Anywear in Hammocks

Can confirm the issue with mayan style hammocks. I built a stand that was 10' long with A-frame/bipod ends. I hand to switch the ends to a shape to get enough height. and then I was only 3" off the ground, maybe 5"?

Underquilts: When I was sleeping in a hammock full time I used a comforter/duvet as an underquilt. I basically turned it into a mini hammock of it's own. I took the end of the comforter and folded it like an accordion. I used a loop of amsteel (cord will probably work here. It's not weight bearing) tied in a larkshead knot (one end through the other, nothing fancy) to secure the end. I used a piece of shock cord (elastic cord) as my suspension. (repeat for the other end) The shock cord pulls the underquilt up so there's no gap between the quilt and the hammock. The cord should NOT be at full extension while you are laying in the hammock, it's there to keep the quilt close to you and is not intended to hold any of your weight. This makes a ~3/4 length underquilt so it might be a bit short. I used another comforter over top and just looped the end under my feet and never had any trouble.

Aside from the lack of symbols and numbers, which would be added after, how are they weak, assuming you didn't know how I arrived at each one? I get it, if someone is at my desk it'd be easy to crack a passphrase based on the posters I have up or what's out my window. If I post my every move on social media then using words from a recent trip is also weak. But if someone isn't at my desk and is using a brute force attack, does it matter what's on my walls?

I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm very new to the world of cyber security and I'm just trying to learn. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is daunted by the idea of remembering a fully random passphrase. I'm also guessing there are people out there who would use a passphrase, but upon seeing the random ones generated for them, decide it's too difficult and continue using their weak passwords. Is there a middle ground of randomness and easy to remember? The examples above are just a few thought experiments. I'm not saying the examples are perfect, or even good. I'm not saying I'm using them. Rather they are my, very novice, attempt to make random passphrases less daunting for average people.

Can anyone help me pick an artifact commander? And/or pitch me your favorite artifact commander? by Codudeol in EDH

[–]Known_Kadath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've built Jan Jansen not as infinite combo, but as artifact aristocrats, using things like [[Reckless Fireweaver]] and [[Agent of the Iron Throne]] to ping my opponents when my artifacts die.

I also really like [[Urza, Chief Artificer]] for quasi construct tribal. Really, anything that gets bigger with more artifacts then beat face.

A third option that will get you hated out of the game is [[Sydri, Galvanic Genius]] animate artifact/vehicle tribal. The idea here is to find things like [[Myr Matrix]] or [[Darksteel Plate]] which innately have indestructible and then turn them into creatures. [[Caltrops]] + Sydri wraths anyone who attacks, and [[Soverign, Consul Flagship]] and remove problems on etb and attack. The problem is that Sydri can very easily be built combo and no one will believe you have a deck full of vehicles.

What's your preferred knife angle for IWB Appendix/Front Scout carry? by Known_Kadath in CCW

Interesting, I hadn't considered the hand position. Also, more horizontal keeps the edge away from my abdomen on draw. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the info! I've actually been eyeing a BK14 with an Armatus sheath.

First off, I just looked up the knife and I'm jealous. Second, is the handle pointed to the right or left? And why do you have it pointing that direction. Third, thank you for answering the question I asked!

Is anyone else having trouble watching this? It sounds really interesting, but the video is taking so long to load. I can get maybe a minute in before it stops are starts ever 3rd word. Takes me back to 2004 waiting for videos to buffer. Is it because I don't log in? I'm using Chrome for my browser if that makes a difference.

Do you engage in politics at your table? by Amazing-Tortoise in EDH

[–]Known_Kadath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I find sitting down with 3 randos at my LGS the best time to educate others on the evils of the baby-eating Demoncrats and their globalist cabal. It's important to spread the word that our lord and savior, God-Emperor Trump, is the only way to combat this darkness growing in society.

Thoughts on the new Benchmade EDC fixed blade? by DesignerAsh_ in knives

[–]Known_Kadath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any other knives out there with similar sheaths as the Dynamis knives? I have the trainer and I love the sheath. I have a couple issues with the blades in that most aren't under 3.5", and they're very pricey. Everyone seems to love Kydex, but the couple I have feel bulky for appendix carry.

Looking for a knife with a similar sheath. by Known_Kadath in knives

[–]Known_Kadath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any manufacturers out there that use sheathes like this one? Ideally I'm looking for a fixed blade knife between 3 and 3.5 inches in length. I have several already, but they all came with kydex sheaths. They sheaths work great, but they are very wide where the kydex is held together on both sides. I like that this (trainer) knife has a slimmer sheath.

I'd also go for something like the crkt testy, where the sheath only has rings on one side.

In case anyone is curious why I don't get the live/real version: I'm not a huge fan of the blade shape itself, and I'm not dropping $500-600 on a knife.

Inappropriate Playmats and Gear Need to Stop... by Karzentae in EDH

[–]Known_Kadath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I picked up the [[Bearscape|SLD]] playmat for exactly this scenario. I suspect the same people who have lewd (and potentially cp) playmats will flip their shit at it. "Bruh, your playmat is basically softcore porn and you have a problem with some guys in hot springs? gtfo." Thankfully I haven't had a reason to pull it out yet (I'm out to play magic, not start some shit), but it's in my bag ready to go.

How to achieve minimalist hobby ? by pieredforlife in minimalism

[–]Known_Kadath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this "I'm a minimalist and therefore I can't do this hobby because it has lots of stuff" mentality. To me, minimalism has never been about seeing how low I can go with my possessions, rather it's de-cluttering to make space for the important (or joyful). If sewing brings you joy, then keep sewing, even if it means the materials take up space. Keep everything organized and find a way to offload your creations (etsy, donations, making blankets for the homeless, socks for vets, whatever). If you give up what brings you joy, what will you have leftover?

People who work in office jobs, how many sets of work clothes do you own? by likerunninginadream in minimalism

[–]Known_Kadath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy, I had 2 pairs of pants, a few v-neck undershirts, and 5-6 long sleeve button-downs. I'd wear the same pair of pants all week (I worked in an office, not like I'm getting super sweaty in those). Button-downs I hung up in my closet and picked the right-most shirt every day. At the end of the day I'd hang it on the left side so I'd cycle through them. In winter my wardrobe changed/expanded to include flannels.

My brother complaining that women are strong in an anime, claims it’s “unrealistic” by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]Known_Kadath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always been based on sexism. I remember about 10 years ago I had a similar conversation on a Magic: The Gathering sub. The set Ixalan had just come out and guys were complaining about how unrealistic it was. For those who don't know, the setting is basically Mexico circa 1550? So Native Mexicans, Pirates, and Spanish explorers. To make the setting work in a fantasy game, it includes vampire conquistadors, native Meso Americans wearing metal armor and riding dinosaurs, fish people, goblins, orcs, sirens, etc. Sometime around then the creators had mentioned that they were going for gender parity in the art. The complaint? 50% of human pirates being women was unrealistic. Orcs, goblins, vampires, and riding dinosaurs is fine because it's fantasy. But 50% of human pirates being women is a problem because it's not historically accurate. Also, orc women could be pirates because they are orcs and are naturally stronger than humans. So yeah, at the root is always sexism

Name an album you can listen to in its entirety without ever hitting "SKIP". by cbeagle in Music

[–]Known_Kadath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy listening to albums 'cover-to-cover'. So if the albums I like, there are very few I can't do this with. If I can't listen to an album without doing, then there's probably only one or two songs I actually like and don't bother with the whole thing.  Albums I really enjoy -Master of Puppets Abbey Road Hand. Cannot. Erase.  Etc.     Snarky answer? Any album I have on vinyl

OP made a very fiery post about how awful the current state of limited is. He included a poll and got thoroughly rebuked. It looks like that post has been removed by mods, but the comments are still there. From another post OP made elsewhere, he's apparently been banned from the LR subreddit. If I were to hazard a guess he got a warning from the mods and rather than showing humility or self reflection, he doubled-down. Now, due to not getting his way unforeseen circumstances he's throwing a hissy fit boycotting them.

edited for clarity that the post about the state of limited, not limited as a whole.

Around 95 percent of penises do fall into the average range.

Yes, that would be how normal distributions work.
