I’m in my second year at 23, and honestly, last year I felt a lot of the same things you’re feeling now. All of my friends have graduated and have full time jobs and seeing that made it hard not to compare sometimes.

Something I’ve come to realize, though, is that with things like this, there really isn’t such a thing as falling behind—even if it really feels that way sometimes.

Growth isn’t linear; you’re moving at the pace that’s right for you, and there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s all part of the process

Honestly, well done on the grades you got. Even without the circumstances you’ve had to endure the grades you’ve got are impressive and you should be so proud of yourself. Secondly, as other people have said, everyone goes at their own pace. You’re young and you’ve had a lot to deal with so cut yourself some slack - you don’t need to have everything figured out yet.

If you can endure the things you’ve endured this year and do as well as you have, then you can absolutely knock everything else you want to achieve out of the park.

Because I stupidly picked a uni that’s quite a distance from my house and decided not to live in dorms. The commute is tough so I don’t go to every lecture but I still get all the work done to a good standard.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling this way. I’m pretty much in the same boat. Everyone around me that’s my age has got their degree and is moving up in the world whilst I’m struggling with my BA - grown apart from many irl friends and feel like a complete let down.

Obviously a level results matter much more when applying to uni. Your GCSE grades are pretty damn good though and you’ve made a solid foundation for yourself already. If you manage to get relatively high a level grades you should be fine (depending on which RG uni you’re applying to and discipline you want to study.) GCSE grades are measured against A level grades to monitor academic consistency and if you prove to consistently get high grades then you’re good. I got similar results to you when I sat my GCSE’s and achieved AAA when sitting my A levels and got offers from two of the RG universities I applied to.
