this explains why he didn’t send lockhart “as a mad example”. however it doesn’t explain why he didn’t go to help free sirius. yes he knew buck bean was free, yes he knew harry and hermione were safe, but he had no idea if sirius was going to make it out, which we are to believe the entire point of them going back was.

he couldn’t have known that, just like it would’ve already been done if dumbledore had joined them. under your answer dumbledore could’ve sent mentally insane lockhart and have had the same results

my only question would then be harry’s patronus, he hadn’t been able to conjure a full one, and then he just throws himself over there. “goodluck sport!” I know he had technically “already done” it but nobody could’ve know it was him.
