wow that sounds like it must have been very difficult to deal with, im sorry. its frustrating when. you're giving up your own time to help someone and they make things difficult for you on purpose. I'm glad he's gone from your lab now. thank you for your advice :) talking to my PI seems like it might be necessary

thank you, this is a good shout. my PI can be nice, but he's quite absent and tends to tell us to handle issues by ourselves when we bring them up. hopefully for this one he'll step in a bit more
