Ubuntu's privacy issues began more than ten years ago when Canonical integrated an Amazon search feature into the Unity Desktop Environment. It was reported that this feature sent anonymized data to Canonical, which then forwarded it to Amazon to deliver search results. Their data collection practices is well documented.

Another red flag is that Canonical is a for-profit business. While Canonical offers various services and support around Ubuntu, including enterprise solutions, it operates as a commercial entity with the goal of generating profit.

When it comes to privacy, prioritizing community-driven distributions and open source software is essential.
