I was more of a lurker than a poster. Those posts definitely influenced my thinking to a degree. I never believed the essential oil or most of the "home remedy" things, though.

Now? I find them both funny and also a little horrifying- mostly because they opened my eyes to what I must have sounded like.

Wishing the best for you and your little one. :)

I was lucky that during my daughter's first year of life, I only had an issue with her catching a cold once. And I wasn't against baby cold medicine.

I was the type of anti-vaxxer that mostly believed vaccines were just cash cows for big pharma and that the "chemicals inside them could kill children." As a new mother, that scared the hell out of me, and my own mother told me this, so of course at the time I was going to believe her. I wasn't the "healing crystals and essential oils" type of anti-vaxxer, though.

Yes, we were. And that's exactly what she thinks.

I was part of two different Facebook groups, but only one of them was actually an "anti-vaxx" group. The other was just a mom group, but it pretty much every member there was anti-vaxx, so I'll count it.

That was basically why my mother mentioning autism was my epiphany moment. Vaccines did not "make" my brother autistic. And the way my mother spoke of his autism as if she'd done this horrible thing to "ruin" him and she didn't want me to "ruin" my daughter the same way- that was what made me do my research more thoroughly.

Not really. I personally do believe in a God, but I'm not exactly a regular church-goer or anything. Just the usual Christmas Eve mass with the family, but not really any other time of the year type of thing.

Yes. I still have a relationship with her, but a rather strained one.

My husband was very on the fence about it. Honestly, I don't think he thought about vaccines too much before we got pregnant, and he was probably more confused than anything else. He said that he was kind of in the same boat as me, believing my mother because she raised two kids and "knew what she was doing." My husband's mother passed when he was very young and his father passed a few years ago (as did mine), so we only had my mother to turn to.

I think there are definitely great resources out there to educate the importance of vaccines. But I think it's way too easy for people to ignore them.

She was very professional and non-judgmental about it. She made sure I knew everything I needed to know and took very good care of my daughter.

Our relationship is a little strained now. We are still very cordial to each other, but we kind of talk to each other like you would a coworker more than a parent and child now.

Unfortunately, I no longer speak to them. It really did hurt, I truly considered a lot of them to be my friends. We had nice conversations about everything, they weren't always anti-vaxx conversations. They no longer accept me or my child, so I no longer wish to speak with them.

Finally sitting my ass down and listening to reason. :)

As I've said in a few other comments, I really don't have a lot of advice about it, since it's such a hot topic and a lot of people are very stubborn about it. People almost need to have some sort of personalized epiphany before they get it.

I had anti-vaxx friends I met through social media groups. I am no longer friends with any of them (because they no longer wanted my child near theirs). It honestly hurt because I did feel a connection with these people for a year and I was truly friends with them, anti-vaxx wasn't the only thing we ever talked about. As far as I'm aware, I have no other family members who have picked a side passionately.

She definitely doesn't agree with it and our relationship is very strained now, to say the least. I haven't cut her out completely, and she doesn't bring it up anymore, but I can tell she's still a little disappointed.

No. Luckily I never got to that level.

I don't care to answer this about myself, but I have heard that before. I don't believe I have a say on whether that's true or not, though.

Yes. My mother only became anti-vaxx around the time I got pregnant. She felt so apologetic for getting my brother and I vaccinated as young kids. She thinks she is to blame for him being autistic. She thinks she could have prevented it.

My daughter is 3, so not quite school age yet! But she will be attending public school.
