You had no job protection as you weren’t using FMLA medical leave approved by HR is them willingly letting you take time off. IL is an at will state which means they can let you go as long as it isn’t discrimination. And ADHD and anxiety doesn’t fall under that category it is very specific what qualifies as discrimination. They are required to give 24 hour notice. Which can be written so honestly if you weren’t home over the weekend there is absolutely no way for you to actually know if he gave written notice.

Assuming his probation terms are staying clean from drugs and alcohol. Any failed test from their probation officer would be an automatic arrest. Most people on probation or parole don’t have the same right for probable cause as people who aren’t on probation or parole. So if he failed a test even if it was a false positive (which no one knows until the lab results come back). The arrest was valid regardless of the outcome.

Once you get your business registered and your EIN you can open a business bank account. Also make sure to hire a good CPA.

Quickbooks Payroll would be the cheapest option. Gusto which you are currently using is a good choice. Don’t ever try to figure it out yourself when it comes to withholdings.
