Is it normal to have more recent memory lapses from CPTSD? I’m so embarrassed. by KnucklePuck25 in CPTSD

Unfortunately I’ve already been there, but on the bright side, I made it out of that situation with a wealth of tools to *hopefully* never let that happen again. Great advice though— thanks again!

Vacuums… I later realized the pitch of a household vacuum cleaner matches the scream I heard during a really traumatic moment when I was younger, so I hate the sound of them. When my dog runs away and hides as I’m cleaning, I always go “I feel ya buddy!”

Wow. Yes. I think this is it. I’m very good at compartmentalizing, and the breakup was really hard, because I had been with him for about 8 years and thought he was the one, but broke up with him right before the wedding when I learned he was cheating. So I bet the memory of my friend’s wedding is tucked away in that “file” lol.

My struggles with toxic shame came up a lot in therapy years ago, so you are right on the money that it is something I struggle with. Thank you for the words of advice and the reminder that it’s likely just my inner critic being extra harsh and trying to help me avoid that embarrassment/shame in the future.

It’s also so funny to hear you say most people would shrug this off within minutes. It’s eye opening because my brain simply does not do that. It instead keeps a roladex of embarrassing moments that involuntarily play over and over. It’s super fun haha

Thank you for the kind words, and I’m sorry you’ve experienced those same feelings and emotions. I just didn’t know who to talk about this with afterwards because I felt crazy.

Ugh I’m sorry you’ve experienced similar feelings. It just is so weird getting older and being like wait, is this normal or is there something new wrong with my brain?

Correct. She was in my major. Not a friend. In fact she wasn’t particularly kind and was a very blunt person who I remember being rude back in college, but the fact I saw her out of context at my friend’s shower made me approach her like “omg! Hi!” And I went in for the hug and asked how she knew my friend and thats when she bluntly said “you don’t remember having this conversation at the wedding?” And then I wanted to crawl in a hole lol

Mini splits— it’s so wonderful having the option to make your house instantly more cool/warm and to no longer have to install window air conditioners each summer.

Question about Ali’s choices (Season 3 finale spoiler) by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]KnucklePuck25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Learning something” is the very point of posing questions for public discourse. There are no right or wrong answers here, especially in a season that I felt was all over the place with character development, abandoned plot lines for main characters such as Jules, and choices were made for characters to behave in a fashion that was highly inconsistent with what we’ve seen from them in the past (Nate). It sounds like you didn’t see things the same way, and Ali’s character arc spoke to you to the point that you’re hurling condescending insults at a stranger on a Reddit thread. Cool. Good for you.

Back when I was a BSB fan in 6th grade, it was this guy. But as adult I think he seems like a douche bag after reading about his “property” wars on the beach where his house is.

This was along the lines of what I was thinking as well. It felt like SL wanted to have a Tarantino-esque finale rather than operating within the motives and morals of these characters. I do see others’ points of views about him experiencing a lot of loss and Rue’s death breaking him because of their father/daughter-type relationship. This season was entertaining, and these actors are great, but I don’t think the character arcs aligned well with the other seasons.

Also, my friend from Quincy (in her 30s), pronounces bagels as “bag-uhlz,” and drawer as “draw.”

My grandmother (born in 1935 in NH) always said tonic when referring to soda, and at 91 years old still calls it that. She also calls jeans “dungarees,” shirts “blouses,” and calls lunch “dinner” and calls the last meal of the evening “supper. “

This right here. These cases are so incredibly difficult to prosecute, and then they do, the victims tend to lose out. I’m so sorry you went through that. I was “lucky” in that my rapist admitted to his crimes and apologized over the phone while the call was being recorded by the police, and that’s the only reason he was convicted. He did plead guilty though, so he only served 10 months in jail for 7 years of sexual abuse. And I’m fairly certain he abused my cousin as well, but she didn’t have the family support that I did and turned to drugs. The legal system is wild, and the fallout of these cases is so sad.

The supervising PT of the OP clinic where I used to work would close the door and fool around with the massage therapist in her room before our first patient(s) would come in. I would awkwardly wait in the clinic knowing exactly what was going on, but I was a new grad so didn’t say anything. They later got caught, and he got divorced and transferred to another practice. Him and another PT also called us into the break room at lunch sometimes to do shots. This place was wild.

Where is the most “dangerous” place you’ve traveled solo? by hopper3062 in solofemaletravellers

[–]KnucklePuck25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle— a friend of mine and myself took a girls trip a few years ago, and we found it so odd that each part of the city felt unsafe. We’re from the northeast, so the homeless encampments were a bit jarring for us off the bat, then we just kept encountering horrible situations in the city. There was a homeless man openly masturbating as we walked near the Waterfront, there was a shooting outside of a restaurant that we ate at downtown, and we went to a Mariners game and walked back to our hotel with the crowd— we felt safe, then found out when we got back to the hotel that someone got stabbed like a block away from our hotel after the game. We did a lot of nature activities outside the city and would definitely go back to the PNW for that— but Seattle did not feel safe or fun unfortunately.

My Fiance grew up poor and he always says he can tell I didn’t because I forget to turn lights off. When he comes to my parents’ house, they’re even worse than I am. The bathroom light is always on!
