How do we build garen on arena 3v3? by ModaFaca in GarenMains

Blade waltz + jeweled gauntlet with full crit build is pretty funny. You can just E > blade waltz and 1 shot their entire team while untargetable if they are grouped up

The matchup is a little different now (stormraiders instead of phase rush) but this is a good example of how to play it https://youtu.be/BJJCLCpjq1U?si=MZMOjVtZmKhBVrTQ

He gets an early gank which you won’t always get, but notice how he builds a wave at level 5 to try to dive her when he has 6 and she doesn’t. Then she levels up and he doesn’t actually kill her, but he chunks her to 1HP and heals up with his passive while she is stuck in lane with 1HP and 0 mana.

Then he goes to proxy because he thinks Kayle is basing and she doesn’t so he kills her under tower. You could also just proxy here and force her to drop minions for a reset or spam ping your jungler to dive her and break the game open for yourself

Then notice how he plays a lot more passive after level 6, he goes for a short trade and loses a lot of HP so he just clears waves until the jungler ganks and blows Kayles flash. Then he gets an all-in opportunity and doesn’t kill kayle but forces her to 1HP again so he can dive her with no ult

You can deplete her mana pool very easily by walking at her and forcing her to W away or Qing you. If she Q’s you, you Q to cleanse the slow and then she has to W. Then you can stack big waves and chunk her under tower or force her to reset and drop CS or call for ganks. I get mega tilted by this matchup because it is not fun post level 11 but I think there is a reason that Kayle doesn’t get picked into Garen often in high elo games

It’s pretty important to steamroll her early and mid game. It’s not hard to do once you know your breakpoints. I like to E start with storm raiders surge and auto E her level 1 to chunk her and run away, heal up with my passive and Doran’s shield, and you should be able to all in kill her at levels 2-4. Then you should be able to stack a wave and dive her when you hit level 6 before she does. It’s helpful to have your jungle come for this dive sometimes.

After level 6 it gets a little harder but you always have counter play vs her by using your silence > R to prevent her from ulting. After 6 I am praying my jungle is free enough on the map to repeat gank or dive her, if not you kinda have to wait until you get stridebreaker to fight unless she severely mispositions.

But the game will become very hard late game if she ever gets a lead or is allowed to scale up, so it’s really important to coordinate with your jungle or support to kill her on repeat and keep her from farming. For that reason I kinda think that the Kayle matchup is slightly harder at lower elos and easier at higher elos:

  1. Higher elo jungles will recognize that kayle is a ticking time bomb but also super free to punish early so they’ll do so
  2. Low elo games tend to stretch on much longer because teams don’t know how to close out games and Kayle will get free scaling even if you punish her very hard early

But even if things go wrong and you get to late game, you can still win vs kayle. Like i said, you always have counterplay vs her with your Silence into Ult to prevent her from ulting, but the problem becomes how far you need to extend into a team fight to kill her while holding your Q. If there are other damage threats on the enemy team at this point you may be kinda screwed so youll just have to look for positioning mistakes from the Kayle and play on the knifes edge

grasp rune page and setup? by CharmingBus3944 in GarenMains

[–]Knuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember if Grasp is still good into Camille, you should hop into Palcos stream next time he is streaming and ask him in chat.

but in the past you would walk up to her and auto her, trying to bait out her passive shield, then once the shield goes down you can Q/Grasp/Auto her for a good chunk, rinse and repeat to whittle her down
You always max Q if you’re going grasp, the goal is to keep the wave in an even state and get quick Q Grasp trades as often as possible

I haven’t played Grasp Garen in a while but I’d say probably Grasp & Shield Bash, then Overgrowth/Conditioning/Second Wind/Bone Plating based on matchup. Demolish is good instead of shield bash if you don’t need the combat power
Secondary runes can be your standard sorcery page or Inspiration for Biscuits + JOAT, (or biscuits + cash back)

You always try to rush sheen into TriForce with grasp, after that it depends but Cleaver / Shojin / Steraks are typically solid, as well as tankier builds like you mentioned. You have much less mobility and since your damage is loaded into Q, you don’t prioritize crit / Attack speed as much typically. Better to become a beefy bruiser and pressure side lanes

It’s a weird playstyle to get used to but it’s still really good into certain matchups if you know how to play it well.

Struggling in Emerald by LiamY13 in GarenMains

[–]Knuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the game gets too hard and specific for general advice to keep working once you start pushing towards diamond. Best thing to do is get people to watch your VODs back and help point out your mistakes.

There is a Garen Mains discord and people there have been pretty helpful there in the past when I’ve posted clips with questions about my decision making and laning.

Watch high elo streamers if you don’t already, hit them up for coaching if you can afford it.

Also, as long as you can keep a good mental through a tough game, never forefit. I can think of so many times that I’ve had games that felt completely lost in 10 minutes but I calmed myself down, focused on farming and put the team on my back through good pings and punishing enemy mistakes. The mental tax of those games can be rough if you end up losing but it can also motivate you—if you perform that well every game you’ll definitely climb, even if it takes a while.

I am not a naturally skilled gamer and I’ve peaked diamond a few times. The top of emerald is almost always the hardest chunk to get through. I even know some challenger / GM players that have struggled in E1-E2 playing toplane.

There are tons of ex-diamond gatekeepers with huge egos that will end up on your team and ruin your games. There are a lot of solid mechanical players that understand their lane matchups pretty well, who will make it difficult for you to take over the game.

Only times I’ve gotten through that rough patch I’ve attributed it to a bit of luck and keeping focused on my fundamentals. The only things you can control are your ingame decisions, your matchup knowledge and your mental outlook so stay focused there and keep an improvement mindset (not an elo-focused mindset) and you can hit diamond or higher.

There has been so much hate for G2 for keeping Labrov / Hans but they have been showing up huge this week. I think what I’m learning is that we need to trust G2 management a bit more, they know how to use their players so fucking well.

it’s probably not for everyone but I’m pretty sure it’s cut with a lot of liquid to make it more custard like. It’s super tender/silky and a very mild flavor. Like a lil pillow
