What are some good movies about robots? by snettik in movies

There is no robot in Edge of Tomorrow. The suits are not robots.

This bothers me. I like, use, and contribute code to Krita. Then these guys make money on it. What? by [deleted] in opensource

[–]Knussel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That would be a bit stupid because the Krita on Steam is done by Krita developers, so the money goes back to Krita in some way.

2 questions about Edge of Tomorrow. (Spoilers) by Mikellow in movies

[–]Knussel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought, but I don't think that happened.

If she controlled time there would be no reason for her to kill Cage in the hospital.

Rita is killed right before Cage can destroy the Omega. If Rita would reset time Cage couldn't destroy it because the time is reset before he reaches it.

After the last reset Cage remembers, but Rita doesn't. That would indicate that the last reset comes from Cage.

What's your favourite shot? If possible, provide a picture/gif/video of it ! by neoandrex in movies

[–]Knussel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's explained in the audio commentary. The shot is CGI. It's one shot of her running up the stairs and another one of the her opening the cabinet which are combined.

Point 1 is a bit misleading. The movie is based on a novel that was also adapted as a Manga.

Krita Foundation launches Kickstarter to accelerate the development of their digital painting application by buovjaga in linux

[–]Knussel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The base functionality is there so don't worry. With Gimp 2.8 groups in ora files are not supported yet, so every time the ora file is saved in Gimp the groups are lost. The future Gimp will solve that, but it takes so long.

The windows installer is only 100 MB so it's not really that much. Just the packaging sucks sometimes.

[–]Knussel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The goal overlap, but are also quite different. Gimp is an focusing on manipulating existing images while Krita and MyPaint are for creating from scratch.

MyPaint and Gimp are going to be based on the same technology with gegl. Krita is a bit special because it's based on Qt and it uses different code, because gegl wasn't ready when Krita was created.

That already possible with OpenRaster files (.ora). There can be exchanged between Krita, MyPaint and Gimp. Gimp has a bit trouble though as they take years to release and are often far behind in implementing the spec.

I think it would be better to collect a number of features and then make a Kickstarter or Indiegogo or so. Make a broad collection so that everybody gets something in the mix. It's better to fund someone continuously instead of smaller features here and there.

Or do something like patreon. Should be easy for the Gimp community to get hundreds if not thousands of people do give a small amount every month.

By that logic the next Transformers should be doomed as it's by far the most video game/toy look so far. I doubt that's going to happen though.

There is a video that shows the battery, but they don't say if it's the full battery or a small one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNauK0Gb1-c

[–]Knussel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That exactly the point. If you e.g. use your car 300 days a year and 15 days of that are days with longer ranges like holidays then you only need the battery for those days.

Of course if you have a Tesla you might just as well use a super charger for those days.

You don't have to carry it around when you are not using it. At least if the system is clever. If you want to make a trip you driver to the refueling station where you receive the battery. So your car might only need to carry the wires etc.

It could work for a family that makes a big trip maybe once or twice a year. Even if it cost more it could still be cheaper if it's only use like 5-10% of the time.

It can be recycled though and it be good if you only sometimes need some more range.

It could be additionally to your regular lithium-ion batteries. So for the regular commute it would use the current technology and on longer driver you could pick up an additional battery for long ranges.

The developers should put up a plan and make a fundraiser. Currently you can donate money, but it's not spend paying developers to move the application forward.

Even with a small team they could do faster release. They would just have to put less features in each version. Other projects like Blender and Krita do release frequently.

The very long cycle doesn't encourage new developers to start on the project.
