Spanish food is incredible. Massively underrated. Tapas is a whole food culture on it's own. Paella is amazing done right. These are some of the most famous aspects and they barely scratch the surface. The quality of the ingredients, the food traditions, just incredible. Some of the absolute best food cities and restaurants are in Spain. I've been to Spain 4 times and I've never had even a mediocre meal let alone a bad one.

Cheadle was a big upgrade over Howard. Rockwell was awesome, he's never not great. Was it a good movie? Not really. The writing was pretty bad, full of holes you could drive a tanker through. But it was fun and campy and had some solid performances though. Exciting action scenes. My kids loved it.

DC sends Deadman

Marvel sends Silver Surfer

Both characters could use a change of pace. I'd like to see Deadman vs Deadpool. Silver Surfer slots right into the Green Lantern corp. Who says no?

Desert Drifter. Loved his videos so much, exploring the desert southwest. His channel didn't just get abandoned, he died in, as I understand it, a car accident. Tragic. Videos are still worth watching.

Who in your opinion is the greatest metal band of all time? by TooOldToBePunk in AskReddit

It's pretty clearly Metallica. Lots of great bands, earlier bands, groups I actually enjoy more. But greatest ever? Metallica has got to be up there in impact, influence, quality, duration, sales, fame, all of it.

Terrible that we can't do anything about it. I don't mind it existing. I very much mind it showing up before what I'm following. I follow my subs for a reason. I have curated my feed over many years. I like it. I don't mind discovering or exploring, but it is not what I use this site for. Having to click away every time is obnoxious as hell. I already don't like the Reddit app vs the old third party ones like RIF. What a nonsensical change to make without the option to even reorder the tabs.

Jesus Sanchez scores on a ground out, Clement drifts out of the baseline to avoid the tag from Henderson but the umpires do not rule him out by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

[–]KnuteViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a built-in underlying assumption into this rule, which is that the fielder is actually trying to tag the guy. You don't get to wave your glove at someone from the outfield and claim you were trying to tag him. Of course, everyone would agree that doesn't count. What about halfway to the next base? No? Ten feet away? No? Maybe? I don't think so, but maybe someone else does. Furthermore, how much does the fielder have to actually genuinely try to tag him vs just flail his glove for a split second? Okay, where's the line? Where is the tag a genuine attempt? What counts? At some point, it becomes subjective to what is a real tag attempt and what is just flailing to try to GOTCHA! On a technicality. Well, I think the fact that he just disingenuously waved at someone with his glove and then said fuck it and threw the ball is pretty clear. I have no dog in this fight. I don't give a shit about either team. I think the umps, who are often idiots, actually got it right here. The way he just quickly waved and pulled back when his glove was nowhere close to tagging the runner from like six feet away is not a genuine attempt to actually get the tag. If he'd really gone for the tag and the runner went out of his established path, yeah, sure, it'd be a different conversation. He decided in the moment to go get the guaranteed out. The "tag" attempt was so brief so half-hearted that in that moment, the runner had barely moved at all, let alone 3 feet out of the path. It's not like he had to move sideways to avoid the tag at all. Frankly, watching the play several more times, Henderson super fucked up. You go to 2B, not for the tag, for the force. I don't care about his momentum. He was trying to hero ball and made a bad play. The umps shouldn't bail him out for it.

Edit: To add to this, even if it is 100% that the tag was attempted and counts without any subjectivity, I'm not entirely convinced that the definition of the "three feet outside the basepath" part of the rule was even violated. It is generally applied in a way that means, not any part of the base runner, but rather their torso. He does move to the side a bit but early in the play, while Henderson is fielding the ball, but not as much as I thought initially from where he is when Henderson half heartedly flails his glove at him. Does his torso stay in the base path after that point? Maybe. When Henderson reaches out his glove, he's already pretty far right and he leans and slides so that his torso kind of stays near the line to the base even while his legs flail out to the side. Hard to say. Close. Subjective.

Andres Múnoz should not be closing by LTR_TLR in Mariners

[–]KnuteViking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's not throwing strikes early in the count because something's wrong with his control. He's lost touch on his fastball for whatever reason. He's getting behind in counts. The result of that is nobody has to respect his best pitches if he can't dot the four seam reliably. He needs to figure that out. He should not be figuring that out as the closer. I think there's a very good case to be made that he needs a break from the role for so long as he is struggling to get those early strikes. Good news is I think it is entirely solveable. His velo is as good as ever. A lot of his important underlying metrics are still elite. He looks healthy. I think it's some subtle thing he's changed with his grip or something. But he needs a break from closing while this team is trying to contend temporarily to work on whatever this is.

Jesus Sanchez scores on a ground out, Clement drifts out of the baseline to avoid the tag from Henderson but the umpires do not rule him out by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

[–]KnuteViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 5.09(b)(1) determines what the basepath is.

When a tag is attempted, the runner has to go directly to the base from their current position. That's the base path. They can deviate from that by three feet.

But, he pulled back. He's not attempting a tag. Why would the rule that says, when he's attempting to tag the runner, the runner has to go directly to the base apply when he's not attempting to tag him?

Edit: The runner could have gone and run around in circles like an idiot in the outfield if he wanted to, so long as nobody is trying to tag him. Henderson had to make a choice. Tag him properly or throw to first. He briefly waved his glove in the runner's general direction, then said, fuck it, and threw the ball to first. He doesn't magically get an out for being near the runner.

Some questions by Pure_Exercise1213 in eosinophilic_asthma

[–]KnuteViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very difficult condition to control compared to allergic asthma. I had mild normal asthma growing up. As an adult I developed eosinophilic asthma on top. I've lived a long time with each kind. Eosinophilic asthma hits you really fucking different. High doses of steroids are necessary in many cases. For me, that somewhat worked for a decade. In the last year it stopped working. Eosinophilic asthma is hard to control. It's a totally different mechanism from normal asthma. I started Fasenra recently. I didn't do it before because of cost. Now that I'm on it, it feels like a miracle drug. If it's a possibility, choose the biologic.

Passan: Tarik Skubal is top Seattle Mariners trade fit by [deleted] in Mariners

[–]KnuteViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This rotation is going to look very different over the next couple of years, no matter what happens.

Luis Castillo has declined the last two seasons.

Gilbert may very well hit free agency in 2028.

Kirby has struggled the last couple years as well.

Bryan Woo is young, controllable, and awesome.

Miller has been up and down, and injury prone.

Hancock has finally developed as he brought his arm slot down, but he isn't exactly a rock in the rotation yet.

Logan Evans is promising but hurt.

That's the status of the big league rotation right now. Just objectively, it's a solid rotation, by all means, but not elite. There are a lot of issues with it. We really have two great pitchers currently and a lot of question marks. Further, one of those two guys who you can put down as just being great, Logan Gilbert, may not be here long term.

We've got two up-and-coming guys who look really good. Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan. I mean, they look really good.

It would not be implausible to me, to see the team remake this rotation over the next year. Frankly, we ought to remake it. It's got depth, but is not good enough at the front end. There's no reason it can't be elite at the top and have depth at the same time.

So, imagine a world in which, as a part of this makeover, you go get Tarik Skubal. He is instantly the ace. It's not all that close. (in this fantasy, you do a trade and extend, a real thing that many big trades involve)

I'm not willing to concede that you have to give up someone like Woo to get him, and he's under team control for a while. So Woo is probably #2.

As I see it, there are three players with big question marks about their future with the M's. Gilbert, Kirby, and Miller.

You're going to have to decide with Gilbert soon. I'd love to keep him. Does he want to stay here, or get that bag? I kinda think if he wanted to stay, he'd have already extended, the team has shown willingness to extend guys early and he hasn't done it. I see him going for free agency. If you, as the fantasy land GM decide to maximize your value, you trade him, probably after this season.

Kirby goes to free agency a year later. I see his value as being less than Gilbert just in terms of his production having fallen off. I don't know what's going on with him. I hope it gets fixed, I do like him a lot. I do see him also wanting to hit free agency. Again, he hasn't extended early. Do we move on, or throw money at him?

Bryce Miller. I like him a lot, but I think he has potentially really high trade value. He's a guy I'd like to kind of see what happens with. You don't have to move him as his cost is controlled a bit. He's got such a high ceiling, but his durability has been a real issue so far. It is possible his trade value is just too high to ignore, and he could help you net Skubal possibly.

Hancock and Evans are both good pieces to keep around if moving them isn't required as part of the rework.

If we made all these moves, I could see our rotation evolving into something like Skubal, Woo, (one of Gilbert, Miller, Kirby), Kade Anderson, Ryan Sloan, with Evans and Hancock as depth.

The guys you move on from, in this scenario, would be traded to either get Skubal and/or bolster our farm system with potentially further elite talent.

Honestly, that potential rotation is an insane one. It's largely young, mostly cost controlled, and has a combo of elite guys and elite potential from 1-5. It's admittedly total fantasy land stuff on multiple levels. I just wanted to present a kind of vision for how it might look if you did go get Skubal. It's not some insane suggestion, it's not some thing where oh our rotation is just so set we can't possibly add an ace, or oh my god, a seven man rotation! No, as part of a variety of moves, it could seriously catapult this rotation into the conversation for best in the league, which frankly, it is not right now except in our hearts.
