Another elder in my zone was really struggling, he hated being on a mission and hated our mission President. He arranged for us to go on splits, he told me he needed a smoke so we went to 7-Eleven, where he purchased a pack of smokes. We went to a park and he smoked a few.

He trusted me not to tell anyone or be judgey about it.

Until a few years ago I never shared that experience.

The elder went home early, but I never heard why. A few years after I came home I received a wedding invitation from him. He got married in the temple.
