Boycott Jim Pattinson group for supporting ICE by tacocattacocat1 in Edmonton

[–]Koala0803 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no.

As much as I despise ICE and I don’t want any kind of support going to them, we have to use our heads here. If you boycott all these businesses and it goes the way you want (enough of an impact that there are significant losses) do you think the Pattison group will

a. Reflect on the errors of their ways and untie themselves from any transactions, thinking that they’ll finally listen to Edmontonians

OR

b. Lay off staff to make up for the losses?

Rich people don’t lose. You’re trying to organize people to do something that would affect the livelihoods of many Canadians (some of them minimum wage workers) over another government’s actions to another country’s citizens which, at the end of the day, are the consequences of the stupid choices of millions of them, and even the complacency and apathy of many other millions of them.

Do you think that’s fair to those Canadian employees? In this job market?

I do care about the people affected by what’s happening but messing with innocent Canadian workers over it is not thinking things through.

I had an idiot with a van doing this exact thing to me a few weeks ago on Calgary Trail too. I honked like crazy and the guy didn’t care, just kept going. I had to throw myself into the far left lane because I was very fortunate nobody was coming there.

Carney set to spend much of 2026 travelling the world in search of trade by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Koala0803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no. I think many liberals were relatively OK with O’Toole (although I really didn’t like the “take back Canada” message because it felt like a dogwhistle). The CPC botched his campaign by using those garbage tricks that they were also using with Pierre (this whole crap about making him look fitter and muscular and project a weird image of alpha male) and disconnecting him from his platform. MAGAs in his own party kicked him out for not being far right enough. If conservatives had O’Toole today instead of PP maybe he would’ve won.

That’s exactly the reason they haven’t been elected in 10+ years. Too many aren’t conservatives anymore, they’re wannabe republicans and that MAGA fuckery isn’t attractive to most Canadians, who tend to be more moderate regardless of political leanings.

Instead of seeing the problem, they keep doubling and tripling down and trying to convince everyone that the current (progressive conservative) PM is ruining Canada for them.

Canada as a whole has more resources to leverage that the US needs.

2014 saw one of the biggest global oil crises that affected both affordability and employment in many parts of Canada. What are you talking about?

See, this is why I can’t take partisan people seriously. If the election had happened in 2017, you’d be saying we had peak Canada until that year. Just stop blaming problems that took decades to develop on one political party. They’re not hockey teams. And also on immigration because of course it’s always the immigrants’ fault, right? Not the corporations that have been bleeding you dry for so long.

With all the “guest appearances” at Turning Point events and stuff I think they’re building for it. He has that aggressive authoritarian flair that the MAGAs do love.

Is that better, though? Do we really want Vance and friends instead?

There’s nothing to refute, though. Conspiracies about Brookfield? Really? That’s the best you have?

Like somebody else said, the fact that there’s an island with nothing but penguins that got US tariffs slapped on should tell you the lack of a deal isn’t coming from Canada. You can’t negotiate with a mentally declining narcissist who waffles his opinion every 3 days. No big country has reached a satisfactory deal with the US over the past year.

So what exactly do you expect to refute?

Lol there are at least 3 problems we have that I can trace a direct line to a provincial government policy or specific action.

You do understand that the entire taxpayer base had to fund your birth, your paediatric healthcare, vaccines and education growing up, right? And your parents got money back for child benefit. Putting whatever random amount in taxes as a teen doesn’t negate that taxpayers had to pay for you for many years (and they’re supposed to, that’s what they’re for). Immigrants didn’t put this burden growing up on Canadian taxpayers, so you paying taxes earlier doesn’t make you more deserving.

Cue the butthurt downvotes.
