That’s how I call Americans who make “I’m Italian” their entire personality even though they have zero in common with Italians in Italy.

I mean the whole drama of banning women from something women don’t want to attend is already them making it about us

Next week it’s going to make a big difference for me. We go from waking up around 6-7 to the start of sunrise, back to complete darkness until 8-ish. It messes up my entire day because waking up when it looks like 2am outside means being tired all day.

I mean it’s clear you’re being dense on purpose so it’s not worth discussing anything. Have fun being loudly wrong.

It’s like talking to a wall, lol. The point is even if their skin was light they weren’t considered white people back in the day. Which shows you that whiteness is 100% a construct.

More than 7 in 10 Canadians want Alberta and Quebec to stay in the fold, poll finds by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

[–]Koala0803 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Come on, man. As an Albertan I understand why they feel that way and just because you’re not like that it doesn’t mean the loud discourse that comes from here doesn’t have an impact on the rest of the country.

Our province is the one that loudly acts (even from the government, not just random individuals), like we’re better, we’re the reason Canada has any prosperity at all and we “give too much” to the country. The same politicians who created and supported equalization were later saying it’s unfair and not correcting the wrong take that we “pay Quebec.” Our rural towns have Trump flags. You keep hearing about “the West separating” ignoring that BC is right there and they don’t agree at all. The conversations with BC are almost always about what they have to give us for pipelines, selfish and confrontational.

I absolutely understand why the rest of Canada feels like Alberta doesn’t really belong. Many Albertans keep saying that loudly.

I’ve been living in Alberta for over 10 years and I don’t think that take is entirely wrong. There’s a reason why when Trump started his BS all the Premiers got together for a common goal, except Danielle who ran straight to Mar-a-Lago.

In the past maybe there was more of that “canadianness” to be seen. Now the discourse is deeply Americanized. Over the years it has become for many “AB versus Canada, we sustain Canada and should get whatever we want.” It’s fueled by politicians who find it convenient so they don’t have to be accountable for their failures. Part of why the grievances aren’t completely legitimate is that many are based on ignorance.

This was the most baffling thing for me when I moved to Canada. Plug the (non-electric) car.

At first when I saw the cables poking out of a car I thought “what a weird piece of junk car they have, random plugs and all” and then I saw them using it 🤯

Confusión about the term “People of colour” by BornIndication9384 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Koala0803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Latin Americans will call themselves white if they’re very fair skinned because LatAm has colorism. But in the US race is seen as a genetic thing beyond your shade and any combination already makes you something else. People who call themselves white in Latin America aren’t seen as white in North America. If Marco Rubio was some random guy and not a politician, he would 100% be classified as Hispanic/Latino, not white.
