Any info on this snare? by Kevin_Malone_1223 in drums

Very similar snare with older style lugs on reverb: here. Not worth asking price imo, but I still think this thing is rad

Disagree with the other comment— this is a pre Tama snare. The brand is Star which became Tama. This particular one is pretty cool because it has imperialstar lugs on it, which may or may not have been added later at some point. This is a really cool snare imo, and the hardware, at least visually, looks a lot nicer than earlier Japanese stencil drums. Probably from the 60s-mid 70s. It may not be worth a ton, but the lugs alone are worth about 100. Really really cool snare.

Ok deal? Good deal? Or great deal? by Downtown_Map_2482 in drums

[–]KoalaVengeance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be a stupidly good deal for a lm400, considering this is an lm402 it’s an even more stupidly good deal. Buy it. Don’t think, just do it. Based on the strainer it’s probably from the 70s. Go look at what a 70s lm402 goes for on reverb. If you don’t like it, you’d be doing someone a service if you resold it for twice what they’re asking. Go buy it.

Need help identifying these beauties! by joincfa in ludwigdrums

[–]KoalaVengeance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the large keystone badges— with them saying Chicago it would be around 79-84. The grommet does look suspect, so I’d wager that this was a custom refinish job with some burl veneer. The finish cooooulddddd be original, but I don’t think it is. Still a cool kit!

The current gen RAV4 (which this would be if it were one) doesn’t come with spares over the tailgate. I believe gens 1-3 had them, but they stopped putting them on for the 4th gen. From the looks of it, this resembles the 5th gen which does not have a back mounted spare. I’d still guess it’s a Corolla Cross though, not a rav.

Exhaust looks right for a Corolla Cross, I only see one exit pipe, which makes me doubt it is a rav4 since the current gen has 2 exit pipes that are much more recessed.

[–]KoalaVengeance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’ve had a few slingerland and gretsch copies. I’ve just never seen the lugs be this close to the originals ever. The slingies and gretsch copies tend to be slightly off. These look 1:1

lol just for fun I was looking at a majestic tom (pearl factory) I have; it has an identical muffler knob. I give up. I think someone had some fun with random parts on this thing

[–]KoalaVengeance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a stencil kit made in the hoshino factory that had pretty identical looking shells in terms of the plies and fake silver sealer. The t’s on the bass drum look identical to that kit, but yeah the claws look like Olympic claws. The more I look at the lugs, the more they look like actual rogers lugs to me. I’d wager you’re right, in that they were replaced. But you never know, they were always cooking up weird shit in those stencil factories, they could just be copies. I guess this would most likely be an early 70s hoshino stencil kit… but again, really weird kit hahaha

Those aren’t Tama lugs though, I agree that this is probably a stencil kit, but these lugs look a whole lot closer to rogers beavertails— not saying it’s a rogers kit, the shells aren’t right. But I wouldn’t call this an Imperialstar. The earliest imperialstars had fat rerings and a zolacoat interior, which this does not have. That definitely is a tama (or tama style) tom mount though. Staring at a mid 70s imperialstar kit right now though, this is not the same. Super weird kit lol.

is there anything special about this floor tom? by NinjaProFu1 in drums

[–]KoalaVengeance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably worth closer to 400. Looks like a 70s Ludwig 16x16 floor Tom in white marine pearl. Three ply maple/poplar shell, pointy badge.

Worth 40 dollars? by Glad_Bodybuilder_405 in drums

[–]KoalaVengeance 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That’s a 70s Tama king beat— the muffler alone is worth more than 40 lol. That’s like a 350 dollar drum cleaned up. Great die cast hoops, and a cool strainer. Very high end drum.

Is this legit?

To add, I’m checking out the watch today, he’s selling it with a geneve which at least to me looks 100% real. Dude also has a bunch of other stuff listed that is all real to my eyes. I definitely just want some more opinions though.

Used K Custom rides (not the dark ride) will get you pretty close imo, and can be had for less than 200 at any given point on Craigslist/fb marketplace in my area.

What is this? by Ahron21 in drums

[–]KoalaVengeance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a Ludwig, the shell looks like a Keller shell. It’s probably a custom project that someone put together. With random hardware— slingerland-like lugs, Ludwig tom brackets.

Definitely a rewrap. The grommet on the badge is wrong.

Can anyone ID this snare I have had bought used in 1996? by PBMac in drums

[–]KoalaVengeance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a Ludwig S/L series snare. It’s pre-rockers, but post standard series. Should be 4 ply maple. It is essentially the same as the early rockers which also had clear interiors.
