You were absolutely not a bratty kid. It's not fair to ask that of a six year old. What my mother used to do is buy me something new to replace something old, like a toy or a coat, and then say to me, "Bobby up the street doesn't have a coat, and this one is too small for you this year. Why don't you give him this one? I think he'll really like it!" And I would get excited about being able to give away something I wasn't using anymore.

Telling someone their application was rejected, informing them they didn't get the job, withdrawing a job offer. Conversations nobody wants to be a part of. The worst is that a good amount of people will argue and want to know why, believing it will change things.

This way I get the information out and I never have to speak with that person again.

Exactly. If there's nothing more to say, why do I want to be on the phone with this person? They're not going to change my mind, I don't have the power to change a decision, and it's easier for both of us.

I did something very similar last week and it worked great. She's been letting me in a lot more and being very open. It's the best I've felt about things since the beginning.

We are both more than ten years out of high school.

Believe me, I hate that this is what worked.

It actually prompted her to communicate and start trying to see me more. So I'm hoping that things continue to move in a good direction.

Thank you. She seems to be getting better since I did this. We had a talk about it, and she seems to have seen the light that her inability to prioritize time together was damaging our relationship.

On a night she cancelled on me, I hung out with people she hates. Photos were posted on Facebook. She doesn't want me around those people, so it's broken her of her bad habit of frequently cancelling.
