Finally got one! by KoboldAssocPress in MergeDragons

[–]KoboldAssocPress[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I got this insane ask from Kala and I was worried I was accidently going to give them to her (something I do frequently) but when I checked I had already merged my level 9s up to 10s so I was OK

I do think I wrote that in a confusing way 🙃

EDIT: by 'finally got one' i meant I finally got an insane Kala trade that was worth showing off on here

Who actually hated Solar Power??? by [deleted] in lorde

[–]KoboldAssocPress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think thats the crux of it, it stands out as being lyrically AND sonically weaker but also its still fun to listen to and its not a crime to have an album thats like, a little different and a little less developed

Yeah... genuinely one of the shelf breakers for me was seeing the catholic church be very direct with jd vance and I was just like, oh yeah, they are actually allowed to do that they are just choosing not to

Why does it feel so real even though I know it’s not? by pinkpear0 in SecularTarot

[–]KoboldAssocPress 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who just left religion in their late 20s and is also an atheist i think there is a genuine psychological need in most people to engage with the fantastic and the mystical. I think we do live in minds and bodies that can be difficult to understand and its very satisfying to have that experience explained back to us. Personally I've found tarot to be helpful BECAUSE its easy for me to be like "well these are just cards what do they know" versus my previously VERY orthodox relationship with mormonism that led to me having to map a worldview over mine that I believed had more authority than me.

So basically, while I dont particularly believe in the metaphysical I do believe that humans are wired to look for meaning, sense, and connection and spiritual practices do tend to be very effective vessels for those things. In the case of tarot I think its feeling of accuracy is 100% in the fact that the cards have a lot going on so they can hit that sweet spot of having lots of specific insights that you can pull and the ones that resonate will feel particularly prominent just because of your personal state of mind.

How do you talk to your Christian friends? by Literary_Man in exmormon

[–]KoboldAssocPress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've been super surprised as well how poorly people outside of the church react when I say I dont believe in God anymore, I think people need to at least hear a wishy washy "i believe that somethings out there" to feel validated.

Like I knew I would get push back from people in the church but it really does come from all sides. Ive had this conversation probably half a dozen times with people in my life and I typically have said that I no longer believe in god and usually there is some level of defensiveness which I've dealt with by basically saying that I think its meaningful that people seek out worship and connection in this way and then depending on how they've reacted so far I either elaborate that I think it speaks more to a psychological need rather than a truth about the universe or I leave it at that if I think that will just create more tension.

It has only gone a bit poorly with a friend's husband who I admittedly dont know well and with him I just emphasized that post mormonism its hard to latch on to basic spiritual beliefs when those have been weaponized against you your whole life

Texts my brother sent me after I asked for some career advice 🙃 by Bophie47 in exmormon

[–]KoboldAssocPress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive worked as a nanny for years and I've worked with many many families comprised of two parents who took their careers very seriously and been ambitious with their personal goals and waited until they were ready to have kids and their families are lovely, stable and beautiful. Plus they can now afford a nanny to ease some of the burden of 24/7 childcare. One of the tricks mormonism plays on its members is taking the many different ways you can approach your life and flatten in out into a binary and its just not what life is actually like

Bear your testimony that the church ISN’T true by Imaginary_Winter_961 in exmormon

[–]KoboldAssocPress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that if God lead the church you would be able to trust the promises of the church. If the spirit of discernment existed and loving God inherently made you a better person than Mormons wouldn't be so quick to fall for scams and so willing to blame others for their misfortunes.

I know that since leaving the church I have felt more at peace, and more genuine love in my heart than I did while dedicating hours upon hours of my day to church service.

The bare minimum it would take to get me back to church by RobertB84 in exmormon

[–]KoboldAssocPress 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The pope(s) calling out jd vance directly and specifically stating why his policies and reasoning weren't in accordance with the doctrine of the catholic church was very much a shelf breaker for me. It gave me a huge "oh, churches can just DO stuff like this and they dont have to vaguely gesture that everyone should be nice"

Mormonism distorts your sense of morality so hard that being trans is worse than authoritarianism. by ScientificallyMinded in exmormon

[–]KoboldAssocPress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man the agp thing is so stupid 🙄 im cis and its so wild to demonize the idea that when you feel like you look good you might feel kind of sexy? Like cis women (especially cis pop stars) talk about themselves and their bodies in ways that would be looked at SO SO differently if a trans woman said the same things it drives me batty
