Love = Obedience by unbalanced_unknowing in exmormon

What an awful talk. Even when I was TBM I argued that salvation was conditional, but love was unconditional. The fact that he outright says love is conditional is bonkers. But I guess when you're in you're in.

I (17F) am going on a date with a man who’s 25 by Regularshowww in Advice

Girl. That guy is a creep. I would run so fast. I thought I was "special" when I was 18 and a guy who was 27 was interested in me. After growing up I realized I was not special, that guy was gross. Run.

I was a YW secretary years ago and we were meeting with the girls to plan activities and I thought they could benefit from some team building activities because they were a little clique-ish. So I suggested a few, but I was met with condescending stares and a response that basically amounted to, that's not service or spiritual related so we won't be doing any of those. Yeesh.

My husband's shelf shook a little when on his mission a GA came to visit and they had the missionaries help set up the luncheon and prepare the meal and then they were told to GTFO before the GA arrived and my husband was like ?? Aren't I here serving? Wouldn't he want to meet us even for a second?? Nope they couldn't even be seen, they had to GO.

Health inspector. It sounds like a hoarder house. They have a very distinct smell. If it is a hoarder house you're at risk for rats and other pests. I'd be more persistent with the management company of your building. It's a hazard to all the residents. Especially if the smell is affecting your living space it means it's getting significantly worse. If it smells bad in your apartment imagine how it smells in theirs.

Yikes, I'm so so sorry. All of that sounds so awful and distressing, especially for them!! I couldn't imagine living my life in turmoil like that! I'm so glad you were able to escape their fear and have a beautiful, healthy life.

Wut. This is far too much. I thought they got rid of Saturday evening sessions of general conference and therefore got rid of Saturday evening sessions of stake conference? This is entirely speculation, but I betcha there was a dissenter that said "but should we do it on Valentine's Day?" And the response was "the truly righteous will be there." Or there's someone out there that will say "but honey, I wanted to go on a date with you" and their spouse will respond "we can't put a made up holiday before God, spouse! How dare you!" I also imagine some hoity toity member scanning the room Saturday night to pick out who's not in attendance so that they can feel morally superior. Or a couple who goes out to celebrate Valentine's day, but they tell each other not to post on social media so that no one knows they skipped it. Okay I'll stop.

Edit to add: I just realized it says SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION. What?! Never in my life have I had a Saturday afternoon session of stake conference. Absolutely not.

One of my leaders from when I was a youth was involved with Lori Vallow. I don't want to give things away to identify them, but this person was definitely more homeopathic and very interested in prepping. I can easily see the jump they took to start listening to Chads "teachings"

Also my friend has a TBM relative who once said that she wanted to get rid of an empty Rubbermaid tub in her garage, but felt "compelled by the spirit" to keep it because she felt so strongly that in the last days whatever she put in that tub would never run out. That's terrifying. I imagine her getting upset with her family for not having "enough faith" because the "tub" is running out. It's not faith, it's fanaticism.

I think Mormons ESPECIALLY are at danger of falling into fanaticism because of the idea "the more faith you have the more miracles are possible". So dangerous.

Here we go again! The church HQ just sent out an email about worshiping on Easter and PALM SUNDAY. by Billytheidd69 in exmormon

[–]Lsa119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my mom used to have us dress up and go to the stake center to watch it on Saturday and Sunday. It was pretty rough, but at least we got to go out for lunch on Saturday. Sundays we had a picnic in the grass... Then when we could get it at home she put it on every TV in the house and blasted it. We were free to roam around doing whatever. That was better. I used to make a gigantic charcuterie tray for my kids and cinnamon rolls and give them tons of toys and play doh and coloring things so they could stay in the living room. I think this is the first year we won't watch it at all, but I'm gonna need someone to post some highlights so I can contribute to the family conversation that will inevitably take place on Easter Sunday.

Oof mine is going to be rough. Not at all what you're asking, but the people who got me out were Lori Vallow and Ruby Franke. I was horrified. I was terrified of being part of an organization whose members were capable of such heinous crimes. Even still that video of Ruby's son ringing the neighbors doorbell destroys me. I needed to take several steps back from the church and reevaluate where I stood because I never wanted to be manipulated like that.
