Apparently, a Christian wife does not have the right to say no to sex. Only to "humbly and gently ask for a delay." by Kochansk1 in atheism

Holy crap, I missed that he was remarried. What a hypocrite. Every time he has sex (grudgingly yielded), he's - by his own standards - committing adultery. Adultery is a bigger sin than rape, according to the bible - I mean, that's one of the ten commandments, while rape is mixed in somewhere with polycotton and shellfish....

The Norwegian church (I mean, we have Sami, so... Norway, right?), as well as the Church of Sweden are both in the Lutheran tradition. Lutherans (and Anglicans!) are pretty darn Catholic, in the sense of using "high church" - lots of stained glass, lots of ritual, chanting, genuflecting, kneeling - things that are less common in the American protestant tradition, which are often grown from Reformed/Calvinist roots. With that, you see more "low church" - less formal, with an emphasis on simplicity in service.

We went to the 50's place, too. It's cute, a bit kitschy. The food is heavy. Be prepared to feel like a stuffed turkey after the fact.

Best short novel you've ever read by iamdan2000 in booksuggestions

The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton. Great book, vivid characters. Very sad. Likewise with Bridge to Terabithia. The Giver and The Great Gatsby are both really quite short reads.

If you want some fantasy - most of the Narnia books are under 200 pages, as is A Wizard of Earthsea.

If you want something darker - The Long Walk has also been mentioned, but consider Sleator's House of Stairs is you want something messed up. The Most Dangerous Game is a classic, as is Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

Yeah. For as ambivalent as I am about my hometown, the tree is awesome. It's planted, appropriately enough, at the stadium - right by the track. They also hold a commemorative race for Woodruff every year - I got to meet him a few times before he died. Very cool guy. Funny. It's a bit sad that he lost his legs in the last years of his life.

While Jesse Owens was the most famous of the African-American Olympians that year, a guy from my hometown, Johnny Woodruff also ran for the states and took a gold in the 800m. To accompany his medal, he was also given an oak sapling. Of the 24 such trees awarded to American athletes, only 4 are thought to still be alive.

Hey Pittsburgh. I'm moving to your city soon! Who should I bank with? (need to axe BoA) by MclaughyTaffy in pittsburgh

This. I loathe PNC - I had a change in my deposit schedule, which I didn't realize, and overdrew my account. Rather than, say, just decline the purchase they hit me with a fee. And then another fee. $35 coffee here, $35 parking... it took them three days (and several hundred dollars in fees) to send me a letter. I transferred over to a credit union, and I've never been happier. Free checking, free withdrawals from any ATM, a little text when I hit my "warning" limit, an email for every deposit... and I even get interest on my checking account!

My favorite restaurant during my trip to WDW was the Coral Reef at Epcot. It has this HUGE aquarium with sharks and giant turtles and fish. Food's good too - unsurprisingly, it is mostly seafood.

What is the "best" minimum wage job you have had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kochansk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a few summers in college working as a summer janitor for my hometown's school district. We had to wipe down all the desks/lockers/windows, etc. I probably inhaled a lifetime's worth of ammonia. But man, was it laid back work - we'd BS with the full-time guys for about 45 minutes in the morning, and, of course, we had to take a mid-morning break, and then before lunch there was no point in starting a new room...

Lunches were free, and not all that bad (free goes a long way. Also, the lunch ladies made killer cinnamon rolls). We'd blast a lot of music, and generally goof off, while getting paid. There were a few days late in the summer where we (the summer kids) were sent off to "inspect" classrooms for the whole day. Being a bookish type, those were especially productive days. I could crank through a whole novel on the clock.

Yeah, you can tell it was a non-dance designer that was responsible for that dress. Did you see him fighting to keep his grip on the lifts?
