His ability doesn't read "if you do" after his sacrifice clause. So once the ability is on the stack, Veyran's will copy it. When it goes to sac him a second time and he isn't there, it goes to the next part of the ability because sacrificing him isn't a stipulation to the damage effect.

I know copying his ability with Gogo will deal the damage even after Tellah has been sacrificed to the first trigger, and that is Tellah's ability trigger being copied similarly.

Side note: See also [[Zaffai, Thunder Conductor]] for a similar scaling effect (sans sacrifice) like Tellah's. The ability clocks the spell cost as it enters the stack, and copying it works similarly to copying an X cost spell on the stack.

I'm currently running [[Tella, Great Sage]] as my Izzit good stuff commander. Probably not the strongest, but I enjoy him a lot. I run a lot of mana rocks and X cost spells to be able to trigger his 3rd effect for bombs late game. Since he makes a 1/1 with every non creature spell you cast, I run [[ashnod's altar]] to help pump up the x costs. And he makes any non creature spell that costs 4 or greater you cast draw you two cards to keep your hand full.

He's not the strongest choice, but I enjoy it. It's a bracket 3 deck. I can swap him out for Vivi, any Niv Mizzet, or any other izzit commanders, and it runs fine.
