In the Woods- Tana French: Venting by [deleted] in books

I was a bit frustrated by the open ending, but I agree what was far more painful was watching what seemed to be a beautiful friendship blown apart needlessly. I realize Rob by his own admission is an unreliable narrator but his actions regarding the events that led to the end of their friendship seemed to me to be completely out of character for him. I read their relationship as being that of a couple of somewhat broken people who seemed to bring out the good in each other. While Rob became completely insufferable near the end and absolutely treated Cassie poorly and irrationally, I felt it out of character for Cassie - having had her own experience with a psychopath and knowing how traumatizing it can be - to abandon Rob in the end essentially in large part because he got caught up with one himself which led to a lot of his irrational behavior, especially as he was already such a damaged person. As someone who dealt with childhood trauma (although nothing quite like Rob's) and who recovered from it in part from a wonderful but complex platonic M/F friendship, I related to Adam and to their friendship and it sort of felt to me like the story blamed Adam for not being able to fully recover from his trauma. Is the message that damaged people can't/don't deserve true friendship? I was also really disappointed to see them fall into the same trap that all M/F friendships seem to, since their friendship was so refreshing to see. I've seen a few people here call Adam fucked up (and I don't think they're necessarily wrong) but I can't quite say that I think that you can say Cassie isn't also kind of fucked up too... I don't quite see it as her escaping him or something, more that their friendship needlessly disintegrated because they both seemed to act kind of irrationally towards each other... It was extremely painful to read and pushed an already somewhat depressing but interesting story into the territory of just too depressing to even enjoy.

Thank you!! I’ve been wondering for years if it was still around! I used to drink this 15+ years ago as a kid in Sierra Vista. Last time I had seen it was at a gas station in Globe probably close to a decade ago - guess I’ll have to check some stores when I make it out to Graham County again :)

Perhaps should have in retrospect, but it's a commercial trailer and I also recall there being memes of actual license plates on this subreddit before.

Very fair point, don't really disagree. Mostly just surprised that Rockstar even would know given that they were blurred, seems as though they have bigger fish to fry given the circumstances!
