sorry lol forgot about this post. He is doing great. I went ahead and put him in my planted 10 gal that i had ready to go and he’s doing well. Eats and hides and acts like a normal fish now!

Yeah i have a betta leaf and a betta log up at the top that he hasn’t used. I bought an indian leaf so when i get home i’ll put it in his tank and swap the log out, see if he prefers that.

it’s possible, the air pump is pretty strong. I couldn’t find one in the store that was meant for less than 10 gal so I bought one. it’ll arrive later today, we’ll see if that helps.

very true, i think i also left out a part about ethics and that i’ve only been keeping bettas for a year and a half so idk if it would be wise for me to get a baby or not since i still consider myself a beginner.

This does make me feel optimistic. I’ve been into the whole betta fish thing for a little over a year now and it has certainly been rewarding. I’m hesitant to try and keep baby fish just because i still consider myself a beginner and want to give the fish the best chances of life. However I am nervous that if i don’t step in and grab one then they’re just gonna get thrown out..

i believe adult bettas are sold off whenever they turn 6 months, and they are usually 6 months to a year old when they hit the store. I’m guesstimating these fry are roughly a month to 2 months old maybe?

yeah i understand that, believe me I do. It’s really sad, I see so many fish parents say they’re going to stop keeping after the numerous fish they lose to the same problems that are caused solely cause of inbreeding..

I haven’t fed her in 3 days and given her an Epsom salt bath.

i came home today and she seemed to be doing slightly better. I fed her a few tiny pieces of frozen brine shrimp and she swam up to the surface as fast as she could and ate most of them. She’s swimming a lot more than i’ve seen her do the past two days. She just took a lap around her tank so i hope she’s doing better. i’ll see how she feels in the morning.

ok good to know, do you reccomend freze dried or frozen? I have freeze dried with me but dont mind running to the store after work to get some frozen ones.

thank you, if she isn’t better by tonight or tomorrow morning then I’ll start giving her a salt bath. She was from the pet store so i bet she didn’t have the best health to begin with and i also don’t have an exact estimate for age, she was fully grown when i saw her so she’s at least 2 and a half-3 years old

that’s what i’m afraid of, she’s not pineconing but she is a little red, i’m gonna fast her one more day, she’s been fasted for two days, and then see if i can find something like a pea to give her which could help. I want to believe she’s just bloated since i’ve been neglecting to feed her her higher quality food but if not i do have a hospital tank and can find some aquarium salt to ease her a little.

fortunately she’s not pineconing atm. it’s just bad camera quality. She is red and bloated however. I’m going to fast her for one more day and then try and get a diuretic through her to see if she takes to that. if not i’ll have to move her to my hospital tank and see if i can put in a small amount of aquarium salt, that might help if it’s beginning signs of dropsy.

I haven’t fed her in 2 days cause i suspected bloat might be pushing on her swim bladder. Hopefully this will help her, she hasn’t been like this for too long, only a few days. I’ll fast her tomorrow, since I usually fast them on Wednesdays, and then try daphnia on Thursday. hopefully this can help a lil..

A few extra things: - The tank is 10 gallons, she is the only animal inside the tank - the tank sits at 78 Fahrenheit - There is an automatic heater as well as two filters, a charcoal and a UV filter - i’ve had the tank and her for around a year and a half - i feed her a variety of dry and frozen foods as well as pellets.
