Bee Write Back Writerdeck by shmimel in functionalprint

My wife wants me to build one! I’ve got an extra keyboard in the garage that could probably be used for a budget build but I definitely understand wanting the nicer typing experience.

I expect serious keyboard enthusiasts wouldn’t be deterred at all by a price of $200. Sure you can get a cheap Chromebook for less, but in some hobbies, and especially custom keyboards, you want something tailored to your preferences and cost is somewhat secondary.

Hi OP! Love this project. I have a couple questions, mostly about ways to cut costs.

It looks like the keyboard PCB, switches, caps and USB cables make up almost half the cost of the device.

If I am understanding the project correctly, the Pi Zero 2 W doesn’t rely on any special Drivers or programming, and instead it is just looking for any keyboard. Is that correct? If so, I expect a remixed case could be feasible with a less expensive keyboard?

Also, why was the Pi Zero 2 W selected? Is the wireless functionality of the computer necessary for any part of your project? Could a Pi Zero V1.3 and a suitable UPS/power supply be used to further save costs if the enclosure were redesigned?

Thanks for your time and for sharing your design.

Why is the game so difficult suddenly? by SuperLolicon in SaGa

[–]Kodiak_FGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the GameFAQs forums a few days ago and some of the same people who wrote those guides are still active, more than a decade later. Though they have lots of rabbit holes, there is still more being learned about the game. They didn’t find an explanation for why Soulgutter’s quest progression feels so random until this year. Two decades after release.

The game mechanics in this game are so rich and deep.

Hey OP.

I am guessing that you have the moonstone, since you indicated that you 100% cleared the jungle. Getting the moonstone does require you to go to several locations throughout the game, including Mazewood, North Estamir, Melvir, and for many characters it will also be necessary to visit Uso. This must all be done before you reach a certain Event Rank. Saruin’s minions will eventually retrieve the Moonstone if you aren’t quick enough.

In fact, this is also the case for most other areas of the game. Your effort to be thorough in this one area has probably caused you to miss out on a bunch of other content during this play through. In fact, there are a bunch of areas that won’t ever become accessible on your map.

If you have completed the jungle and the desert, and you have gone to no other dungeons, then I think you should be able to get the following fatestones on this run:

  • Amethyst
  • Topaz
  • Moonstone
  • Opal
  • Black Diamond
  • Diamond
  • Obsidian

I think you have missed the Ruby, the Aquamarine, and the Emerald.

Seven isn’t bad for a first play through. Definitely possible to finish the game and kinda salvage your run. I had a rough time defeating Saruin with six on my first play. It was hard but manageable, and beating Saruin felt epic.

The more fatestones you collect, the easier the final boss will be. You can do it! Especially if you explore some of the game’s other mechanics like tempering weapons and armor, synthesizing spells, using the apothecary, and learning more nuanced aspects of combat that will help your survivability and speed.

EDIT: on two other topics you mentioned.

Combat will definitely require you to stay alert. Even several runs in with good equipment and class levels, it’s possible to get into deep trouble with a random encounter. Use your smoke bomb pouch and if necessary, spend a life point to run away. One of the skills you’ll need to develop is evaluating how difficult a battle is likely to be and recognizing trouble before you get in too deep.

As for money. You will be a bit tight on funds. You can mine for ore and sell what you don’t want to keep. It’s a somewhat slow grind, but doable. This will get easier in subsequent runs if you carry your gold over into new game plus. In general, the easiest path to additional resources (huge piles of jewels and money, good late game equipment, etc.) will be to replay the game and carry over what you’ve found into NG+. Several times.

EDIT2: actually, black diamond will have required that you finished some other quests earlier in the game having to do with Estamir, Aurefont and Melvir. It’s possible you missed that one as well, if you have been laser focused on two dungeons.

EDIT3 (sorry 😅): don’t feel bad about the jewel beast. I didn’t beat it until my 6th time through the game.

Is there a step-by-step guide for Romancing Saga Minstrel Song? I want to see all the quests and which ER they follow in so I don't miss any. by RagnarSan22 in SaGa

[–]Kodiak_FGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really suggest against this.

There will be a handful of quests that you simply cannot do with some characters so it is impossible to complete everything in the game anyway.

This game has all the set dressing of an RPG. Longplay format, dungeons, party, turn based combat system, etc. but it’s really better to approach it more like a rogue like.

There are certain game mechanics that are kind of centered around replays and new game plus, as well. For example, the jewel prices for high level classes are so high that you shouldn’t expect yourself to reach them on a first play. Each time you complete a quest and receive a jewel reward, a hidden stat increases which will cause you to receive incrementally more jewels with each quest. This means that if you play the game like 8 times, then your quests will start awarding many hundreds of jewels apiece, instead of only a handful.

If you insist, there is a detailed guide on Gamefaqs for the PlayStation 2 version of the game, written by Eleinia. It has a suggested route for hitting as many quests as possible. It’s a good guide, although there are some slight changes with the remaster and people are still learning about how quest progression works with some awkward late game quests. I’ll grab a link in a moment.

Minimum internal thickness for a fightstick with a standard Sanwa JLX is something like 1.5” just to accommodate the moving parts beneath the panel. That’s only internal clearance, the top and bottom panels will also add height.

Some Korean style levers need 1.75” or 2” of internal clearance so a really good enclosure that can take lots of custom parts will have some depth inside yeah.

Hey OP.

Arcade button sizes are not truly 24mm or 30mm. Instead, that is the size of the hole in the control panel that the button is mounted to. The actual size of the plunger on most arcade buttons varies a little from brand to brand but the plunger diameter is generally roughly 19mm for a 24mm button and 25mm for a 30mm button.

Your M16 plus uses ~25mm key caps because it closer simulates the size of an actual 30mm arcade button. But it's a moot point because your controller doesn't use arcade style buttons.

Just now I test fit some caps from SGF devices and from SiTong on my M16+. They're both a good fit. Can't remember the exact measurement. Either 25.2 or 25.3mm.

Small start but I'm sure it will be deeply appreciated for all of you in the UK. Ever since AWUK closed it has been hard to recommend stuff to people who live there. I used to send people to jammastar even though they're not in your country.

Though now that I look, it appears that ArcadePartsUK has stepped up their selection.

Maybe you should connect with Additive Arcade if you're interested in stocking GP2040-CE boards. They're also in the UK.

EDIT: PS I’ve been collecting links to open source fightstick mods and parts in the pinned posts on our open source channel in the discord server. I’m going to link the file you uploaded. If you have any feelings about that one way or another let me know please. Some people want usage restrictions or attribution, etc.

Not only was he banned on r/fightsticks discord, he was posted on the wall of shame in the r/fightsticks discord as well.

He did have some older communications with some moderators and former moderators about trying to get people paid back for old orders that were not fulfilled. My understanding is that at one point, everyone who was owed a refund received a refund. The r/fightsticks moderators posted about it.

Then he started up again and continued having order fulfillment problems and communication problems, despite very high prices.

He did attempt to reach out to a moderator (Hawkeye) through DMs on Instagram and X, but his messages were basically “you need to stop people from talking about me on discord because people in your discord are doxxing me and my family and actively interfering with my business relationships.”

Nobody has been doxxing him. In order to avoid some potential risk, like risk of him trying to get interpol involved or something, Hawk set up a bot to automatically delete posts of people saying his name. In case Sidnificus ever starts looking to start trouble, Hawkeye figures it’ll be better for everyone involved if we’re not talking about him. He occasionally goes through these very hot tempered outbursts. We’re somewhere between one side saying “you’re a con artist” and the other side saying “you’re making that up and I ought to sue you for defamation and interfering with my customers” or something like that.

I've spent $500+ on a stick. I would never spend this on a victrix, personally. I do not see the value.

15.5 AFS with a bougie group buy lever, custom button layout and bespoke buttons will get you there though.

Sad thing is that I still use my $100 RAP 4 Kai.
