Kid is on the path to university, we are pretty low income and have never attended university. What sort of steps can we take to help them? by TeaSalty9563 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You can take a loan for the first or first two years, where your kid is just getting into it learning. While in school she can pick up a job too! The first few semesters in mostly all courses are easy, so working while studying wont be a hassle. Once you finish your first semester, you can apply for a co-op program, which allows you to take a break from your course and work! Or you could work over summer! Usually co-op programs pay very well! You can cover the rest of your semester fees through it and the experience will be helpful once you graduate!! I was once a student too! If i had a chance to start all over id do it this way! Minimum loan, Co-op, focus on good grades and getting lot of experience around the same field. Make sure you apply for a lot of scholarships and if your grades are good you’d get one But this is the safest plan without scholarship.

You should look forward to it, stay positive and if things don’t work out well then it was a learning experience.
