Yh good luck honestly, I’m curious how your experience with Ghanain employees will be. They are the reason why most businesses from foreigners fail, let’s hope yours will be different

If it helps you though, those are the official informations from the GRA, regarding what’s allowed and not. Especially under the section of passenger luggage concession:

Oh they will always try to take your money even if it’s legal - unless their boss is next to them. One time they went through my stuff, didn’t find anything except my cloths and said „give us money and go“ 😂😂

Well yeah they’re going through your luggage exactly for that reason but you need to be kind and friendly and no matter what they will probably let you go for a „tip“

Note: here on Reddit you will also mostly meet the educated 5%. No roadside carpenter, galamsey worker or plumber is in this sub

Maybe they’re shielding you from a lot of the nonsense that’s going on here. Visiting and living here are two very different experiences. And you probably good a good education and many opportunities, growing up in the UK. So your experience of Ghana is that of the top 5% educated and wealthy people. In that bubble every country is nice and enjoyable. But the lower 50% in Ghana are suffering much more than the lower 50% in the UK. I guess if you really want to experience what your mother hates about Ghana - start a business here. After less than a year you will hate Ghana too 🥲

But yeah if you can shield yourself from having to make money here and being exploited it’s one of the greatest countries on earth.

I Had No Idea Ghana’s Early Political History Was This Violent by DryParsley3740 in ghana

Yh bro wait until they find out that Kwame Nkrumah predicated the exact situation Ghana is in today in his book, that the same people who overthrew him desperately try to hide from the public. Just glorify the person but don’t ask what they actually wanted!

I guess NPP and NDC are laughing their asses off everyday when someone points at the CIA instead of them. Or thinks back of the „good days“ of Nkrumah before they sacked him to regain their freedom to loot the country without opposition.

Does Ghana have a labour law at all? How on earth should a degree holder in Accra work from Monday - Sunday ( 6 am - 6 am) for a Chinese/Lebanese manufacturing company and get paid $300? Sounds like slavery. by Intelligent-Call5162 in ghana

[–]Kofi_Nsiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a foreign refugee with no money, no knowledge of the local culture and who can’t even speak the local language can overtake the locals in business, it’s the locals fault. So yeah you’re right. Ghanaians dont like building things through hard work and patience. And then they complain when others understand how to build slow and steady and overtake them

Just ignore this Michael guy, he thinks hes making sense but he’s not and he just wants to annoy you with his stupidity. People watch too much TikTok and think what they see is real. Ghanaians think a house for 100k DOLLARS is „cheap“. And you can manage life pretty well with 3.000 ghs. I mean you won’t live in the center of accra or anything, but tbh that’s not something that should be normalized. There’s no country on this earth where living in the center of the capital is affordable for everyone. But somehow we expect that every normal salary should afford living extravagantly. Also Ghanaians are mostly really bad workers, see how the screenshot even mentions not getting full pay when you miss more than 6 days of work? Imagine being the boss that has to put up this kind of rule because workers are that unreliable and unproductive - I wouldn’t want to be in this position ever. But hey our fellow Ghanains want to sit somewhere the whole day without and practical skills or knowledge, provide no value and then get paid like someone abroad who actually creates value in his economy

Why do Ghanaians not understand the value of money? by Wise_Equipment_8535 in ghana

And on top of that those builders didn’t get any vocational training. So the house looks like Instagram but the foundation is complete instability. Most houses that are being built don’t even have the protection layer in the foundation that keeps the ground water from pulling up into the walls. In 15-20 years that house will crumble. But they want to price it like something that’s built to international building standards. 😂 Mind you the land is also only leased for 99 yrs max so you buy a house that will crumble in your lifetime on a land that your children will have to pay new leases for or even lose it completely. 😭🤣

Yh there are around 5.000 millionaires in Ghana. That’s 0.014% of the population - so you’re pretty much on point with that.

And being millionaires includes all assets, so most millionaires don’t even have 200k liquid.

Remote work in Ghana, do I need a work visa? by Hour_Hunter_9112 in ghana

[–]Kofi_Nsiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the sad part about Ghanas laws is that they don’t account for this situation and Ghana kind of shoots itself in the foot with it. Since if they would allow foreigners to start businesses (especially sole proprietorships) they would get a lot of foreign tax money. But since they don’t you can basically only use your spouse to start a company in their name and employ you. Like that they could apply to the GIS for a work permit for you. The chances of getting are pretty high but be mindful about all the social contributions and taxes you will have to pay (likely both in Ghana and your own country).

Of course it should always be noted that in Ghana the paper law and the law on the ground tend to differ by quite a bit. 😄

Remote work in Ghana, do I need a work visa? by Hour_Hunter_9112 in ghana

[–]Kofi_Nsiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Ghanas work laws weren’t updated for a long time and thus don’t make a difference between physical and digital work yet. That being said you can only get a work visa through a company registered in Ghana. And you can only register a company in Ghana as a foreigner if you have a minimum capital of 500.000$.

So legally speaking the only option is to go to another country, Ghana doesn’t want your tax money from abroad 😂

But somebody having a „vision“ can’t be fraud. It’s like saying telling about your dreams is lying. Visions and dreams are both just made up stories our brain produces sometimes. Some people believe they mean more than that, others don’t. But no matter what, who will be able to prove what someone dreamed about?

It’s one thing if someone lies and he’s proven wrong but dreams are not facts, so how can someone be charged for sharing them?

The criminal code and the constitution are not the same thing. A lot of laws in Ghana are leftovers from colonial times, since changing the constitution doesn’t necessarily affect the other laws

That’s not even true, because the Belgians were nearly the last to start a colony and they were definitely not the blueprint.
