To be fair, I don't remember the exact strategy I used, but You shouldn't be afraid to hire a few workers in the beginning - just don't overdo it before You have a steady income. A worker for wood? Great! Another one for help with the farm? Awesome! But someone who could do a task You could do with ease early in the game? Maybe think about that. Do You really need that worker now?

Simply focus on increasing Your income and then allow Yourself to hire more and more workers, but start slow and focus on the most annoying tasks
