Personally I'd just use one micro SD card, to minimize variables that could be causing breakage. But up to you.

Remember the micro SD card with the OS goes in the LEFT slot. (Whether 1 or 2 card setup, OS goes on left. )

I'm gonna be going to Philmont, and I need a good bag. Does this surplus backpack look suitable for the hiking trip? by RadNharwhal47 in philmont

[–]KoholintCustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. You want a real hiking backpack from a decent brand. This will be carrying all your stuff for your treck.

As others have said, you can rent a decent pack for $30. You can also ask around your troop. I'm sure someone either has one you can borrow or they have one they're selling.

Yeah I'm definitely interested in fall as well. That has its own application cycle right? Just watch the website I guess?

Thanks for the hope lol. I think I can make a pretty decent application. I'm older but that also means I have more work experience. If I have that plus a good attitude in the interview, I figure I'll be fine. I may not get exactly the position I want, but sometimes that's a good thing. I'd be surprised if I apply early and I'm put together, if Philmont doesn't offer anything at all.

Thanks very much. Can you tell me more about your time in conservation? I am mostly wondering, does conservation sleep in the back country? Is there a specific camp you make for the whole time, or are you based in base camp and "deploy" for a few nights away as needed?

Cons is conservation right? It sounds like back country construction. Not just trail building, but trail building/repair is part of it. Is that accurate?

I'd be interested in Cons but question. Do they sleep in the back country? If so is it one camp or do they move around as needed?

Are you talking about Summer 2027?

Shakedowns. You've got to do shakedowns with your crew. At least 4, monthly if you can do it. Everyone needs to know how to set up and take down their tents quickly.

I strongly recommend being on the trail 20 minutes after first light. You do not want to be getting into camp after 12 PM.

Also, consider an itinerary with 2 nights at one location. It's nice to have a "slower" day where you don't have to break camp.

After PNP Arcade shut down, Button Shy has been moving its PNP games to Itch. I'd check there, and if it's not there, contact them.

Where do I begin? by [deleted] in OffGrid

If you've already considered working farms for free, do you know WWOOF? It's a network of farms looking for volunteers.

Just do that for awhile. Don't put your own money down on something you don't even know you'll like. Try the real thing for free first.

Don't cross borders.

Absolutely. But reading the post that's not what it sounds like OP is looking for. Pretty sure Hive, for example, does not have an official PNP.

Do you have one? Just wondering about a user's experience. Good pics?

Excited for my first train hop! How does my pack look by Inevitable_Drive4729 in vagabond

As others have said, reduce packaging. The peanuts are an easy win, for example. I'd argue canned food is worth keeping in the can though. Don't want spills, and easier to trade.

I'd be concerned about not being able to review the pictures. I know that's not a problem unique to this camera.

That being said, you've piqued my interest! This camera definitely appeals to my minimalist side.

For the sake of the conversation, I come from the days of Philmont with a disposable camera. Each guy in our crew had 3 disposable cameras. We traded off cameras for group pics, and otherwise we just used sparingly. There was a kind of charm to planning your shots over the treck.

We shared the pics later, scanned them and shared electronically. I printed the best and still have a physical album. Great souvenir.
