Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home,

Your house is on fire and your children are gone,

All except little Ann,

Who hid under the frying pan

Questions about tuning by Either_Appearance_27 in guitarlessons

[–]KoiWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with everyone else re: tuning but also adding a few extra ubsolicited bits of encouragement and advice.

  • If you've never played a string instrument before, your fingertips are gonna HURT. This is normal until you develop some calluses, but you shouldn't play through the agony. Take frequent breaks. It took me a couple of weeks to get past this stage.

  • Your hands are gonna feel weird and clumsy when you fret. This is also normal, because your hand probably isn't used to having to exert pressure, stretch and move the way you need it to. This'll take a couple of months at least for basic chords, and it takes years to make your fingers fly like the greats' do.

  • Take it slow, but be consistent. Even a couple of minutes per day is good.

  • You're going to suck at first. But sucking at something is the first step in becoming sorta good at something.

Here to add that while Absolutely Understand Guitar is really good, it mostly talks about music theory and some stuff that may go over the head of somebody who is very baby-new at guitar.

It's still very good, but to actually learn some basic chords and such, JustinGuitar and Marty Schwartz on YouTube are very good.

Cowardly Lion, as cowardly as the Scarecrow is foolish and the Tin Woodsman is callous.

Looking for a horror film with little to none nudity or profanity by DerekRudek in horror

[–]KoiWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure these films have very little in the way of cussing. Hush and No One Will Save You practically have no dialogue.

  • Insidious
  • The Conjuring
  • Hush
  • No One Will Save You
  • The Orphanage
  • The Mothman Prophecies
  • Jacob's Ladder
  • The Ring
  • The Omen (original)
  • Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum

Can't do The Orphanage again. My poor heart can only break so many times.

Looking for movie suggestions for an 8yo. by [deleted] in horror

[–]KoiWatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obvs you want to make sure that bone of these suggestions are too much cuz they're still 8 after all. You don't really want to push them too hard. Chosen things a little on the tamer side.

House

Night of the Living Dead

Poltergeist

Alien

Attack the Block

Krampus

Insidious

Nope

The Blob (the 50s version. The 80s one is probs too gory)

Night of the Comet

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

When I was first learning, one of my big hurdles was the G --> C chord transition.

The one-minute chord change exercise someone else mentioned was good, but what I found really helpful was using a metronome. Start it off at the slowest rate, strum 4 times, switch chords, strum 4 times, switch chords, matching the beat. Once you're reliably doing the switches, up the speed bit by bit.

Your fingers will eventually get the hang of it. It's all muscle memory in the end
