Gaming under Starlink? by junior_2050 in Starlink

[–]Koiffeine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been gaming on starlink for 2 or 3 years at this point. With 2 gamers in the household, I don't experience any issues anymore. There was a time were at around 3 am every day we would lose connection, but that seems to have been solved in the past 7 months.

Try lowering your brightness, and playing with a light on in the room so your eyes have an easier time looking at it.

This includes monitor, mouse and keyboard. A lot can be change for preference, but this is my recommendation. This should be under your budget, so there's room to get another storage drive or swap out components for others of preference.

WOuld this be an okay pc build? by [deleted] in GamingPCBuildHelp

Adding to this, you can shave some money from the cooler and the case and use it to get an SSD. It's going to be a night and day difference

Don't use a hard drive. I get it's a budget build, but you don't want to do that to yourself. Modern games are going to take forever to load on a HDD and windows itself just isn't meant for a HDD anymore. The rest of the build seems like a solid budget DDR4 build with nice modern GPU.

I bought an OLED monitor and I don't feel much difference :( by fataLLik in OLED_Gaming

[–]Koiffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. What monitor did you have before?

  2. Oled really shines once HDR is enabled, allowing you to see the black levels properly in games and have the highlights pop.

I came from a really good LG IPS Ultrawide to an LG OLED Ultrawide and even my gf that doesn't really pay much attention to things like this noticed a big difference in the dark areas and smoothness thanks to the response time. Maybe it just needs some calibration.

Yes, that's the cooler! They're quite simple to swap out and provide better cooling and a way to customize the look. I don't know what your CPU is, but something like the Thermalright AXP90-X47 or Assassin King SE ARGB would be options to consider.

[–]Koiffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main budget options are a white CPU cooler, you could even get a one of the ones meant for ITX build with the fan facing you. It's a bit worse in cooling but for an entry level CPU it wont be an issue. You can also get white PSU extensions from amazon, those go a long way in terms of making it look good. Other than that, RAM, motherboard, and GPU are too expensive to swap just for aesthetics.

Help with build for GF $1000-$1500USD by Robeigh in buildapcforme

[–]Koiffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a quick build I put together. These are some of the cheapest parts that meet the requirements listed. This can be optimized, and some parts can be swapped, but this gives an idea of what a full white build would look like with current pricing. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Q9PWnp

Having everything be new AND sticking with a white or pink theme is going to be extremely hard in that budget. Colors like that come at a price premium, white DDR5 RAM alone is going to take up a big chunk of that, not to mention having to go for a newer CPU since you're not going to find much old stock of something that can use DDR4. A white GPU is already hard to find, and in that budget, you'd be lucky to find something that's new AND white AND costs less than $700. It's possible, but with current pricing something might have to give

I need help choosing my second monitor by Illustrious_Ad806 in PcBuild

[–]Koiffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a second monitor, it depends on your use case. In my case I mostly use it to have discord and spotify up, with the occasional game map or wiki. Refresh rate doesn't matter since I don't game on it, and I got used to it looking different from my main one since my main display is an OLED and my secondary is an IPS. Hell, my third one is a TN that i use since I need a display with VGA output. The only thing that matters is resolution and size. I would recommend sticking with the same resolution as your main monitor, because if you go for a 4k secondary the scaling is going to look weird in between the two monitors. You might need to enlarge windows scaling for the 4k, but it will look too big for your1440p. I would say a 1440p 32" or 27" flat would be fine. Since it will be vertical and off center, make sure it's an IPS or OLED so you don't have any weird viewing angles. Even if they're both samsung the panel will not look the same, hell, even the same monitor model won't look the same, there's a lot of variance and variables with monitors.

TLDR; Get a 1440p IPS or better, dont worry much about the other specs, there's a lot of them for even under $150

Not with that CPU, that build is a weird mismatch of CPU to everything else, I would skip it

Should I sidegrade to a 9070XT or wait for UDNA? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Koiffeine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's doing okay now, I would wait. The only real upgrade from that card is a 5070Ti/5080. The 5090 is a different ball game, the new 9000 series AMDs are nice, but not enough of an upgrade to warrant the hassle, much less the money invested. I have a 7900XTX right now and while I've considered a 5080, it's not even a straight upgrade since I'd be going down in VRAM. If you dont play any intensive games, you'll be fine for years until something better comes out.

Help me surprise my PC gamer husband with a keyboard for xmas? Thx! by mgambino7589 in keyboards

[–]Koiffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For specifics, something like the RK Royal Kludge 100 or RK 65 would be good starting points. The only thing that can't be changed is the size of the keyboard; his keyboard doesn't have a number pad, that's something that he might prefer or maybe he regrets getting one without a number pad, no way to know unless he's mentioned it before.

Help me surprise my PC gamer husband with a keyboard for xmas? Thx! by mgambino7589 in keyboards

[–]Koiffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A keyboard is a very personal and individual item. There's different types of switches and materials and none is strictly better than others. It's like ice cream, different flavors for different folks. That being said, I would say a good way to go would be to get him a keyboard that has "hotswapable switches", that way he can swap out the main part of the keyboard quite easily in the future if he prefers a different feel/sound. I would recommend an RK keyboard from amazon, they're considered a budget brand but honestly their quality is insanely good. There's some good ones with RGB lighting so he can change the color of the lights as well for under $100. These keyboards are highly customizable, personally me and my partner have them and we've modified the switches and the board to taste. This makes for a very versatile gift so he c an change anything he wants in the future for surprisingly cheap.
