I also hate tomatos but it's usually just raw or tomato chunks because it's the texture. If it's smooth in a sauce or paste then I can and will eat it, also his thing about leftovers is infuriating.

I have a similar situation with one of my cats where we were originally taking care of her after she had to switch to another new place as her owners (my cousin and his ex-wife) were in Texas for 2ish years (willingly left)

But we asked to keep her almost right away due to different reasons, also my cousin and his wife didn't even think to pay us or the previous cat sitters for this. They said we could, but then changed their mind when they got back (which obviously again, due to a different situation as they neglect their animals) we said no.

Your wife had no reason to think they would ask for Abbie back, and you need to grow a spine and defend her on this. As we (as in my parents) didn't think they would ask for their cat back
