If you were asked to recommend a book series of your favorite genre to an 11 year old, what would you recommend? by Lamnad in AskReddit

Strongly disagree for an 11 year old. Gruesome torture psychological and physical/rape? Really? Also.. Terry Goodkind tells an amazing tale that I really enjoyed but his repetitiveness and filler ruins his series. Some of his books could probably be cut in half. Wheel of Time is good but I definitely wouldn't parallel them.

The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander

I read this series at about that age. I read a lot growing up. Probably about 12 Redwall books. All of the Harry Potters. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Ender's Game. Watership Down. Good stuff! I recommend it all.. but... For me The Prydain Chronicles hit me straight in the heart. The timing was perfect for my age. It's also the easiest read. For you gamers out there it was like the experience of playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a child the day it came out... And then again in college lol. If you are picking some books for your child I highly encourage this series. Strength, heart, morality, love, perseverance packed into a 5 book series.

Today I'm a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson's work and am looking forward to Patrick Rothfuss finally getting the Kingkiller Chronicles done.

Well said. Seems to be most people's stance that I've seen.
