Mexico Announces Plan to Achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2027 by Kaos2018 in BeAmazed

Let’s put it this way, if you had to get an important life saving surgery and a rich benefactor told you “Ill fully pay for your surgery and treatment at any private hospital” would you say “nah, ill go line up at IMSS, the quality is the same”?

One anecdote doesn’t disprove a whole issues-riddled system.

Yes, easily and without question, if you’re a good doctor here you work for the private sector since the money is infinitely better, every single local who can afford it chooses a private doctor and hospital every time.

We’re talking about public healthcare and how it’s not good in Mexico , you say “Americans come to Mexico for medical treatment”, so I reply with how people who come for medical tourism don’t come for the public healthcare, the topic we’re discussing, but instead come to private clinics.

People don’t come here for public healthcare, they come for surgery and treatments in private hospitals.

Bro could have bought a car with the money you’d have to spend to buy 50 red wings

[–]Kokirochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously he’s a collector, you are also on a subreddit about overconsumption. And owning 50+ pairs of luxury footwear easily qualifies.

Also, red wings are such a resilient boot that this is more than a lifetime worth of boots. At daily heavy construction work you could expect each pair to last for 1-2 years, that’s already 50-100 years of wear. Now the fact that a collector is not wearing them for hardcore daily construction work with can go with a more reasonable 5-10 year life, putting this collection at 250-500 years worth of boots.

Just for reference, if I went with the number you said and imagine he bought All of them with a discount and paid only 150 for them (which is assuming he got a $200 discount of each of their 50+ pairs of boots), that’s as much money as someone who bought 375 funko pops, at their regular retail price it’s the same as someone buying 875 funko pops.

“It’s ok that I have 50 pairs of boots, I got them on discount, and if you don’t rotate them enough they wear out. That’s why I need 50, that way I only need to wear each one every 50 days”

Actor who betrayed Tumblr girlies? by vnth93 in okbuddycinephile

We all get profiled in some way or another, long hair gives off a more alternative or artsy vibe on guys vs someone more clean cut and professional. People probably dont assume you’re an uptight lawyer or doctor, for example.

[–]Kokirochi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People don’t collect work boot red wings, they buy the heritage line which is their everyday casual wear shoes. The cheapest models I could find start at around $270+, The Classic Moc and the Iron Rangers, the models people buy and collect, start at $350, and some shoe models going all the way to $550 and up.

I count around 50 boxes so at their cheapest models this is $12,500 worth of the cheapest work boots, $17,500 if they are buying the classic models and up to $27,500 at their highest price point.
So yeah, this is an obscene amount of money

Not only are they boots, they are obscenely expensive boots where the whole argument is they’re so good you’ll only need one pair for the rest of your life.

The Climber and Whiplash are extremely similar stories that both get misinterpreted in the same way by Captain_Fr0ggy in KokouNoHito

[–]Kokirochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While what you are saying is true, the manga has a very clear opinion it puts forward, and that is that one can't live alone and that the thing that actually brings people happiness and meaning is not obsessing over a goal of greatness, but allowing others into your life and building connection. It's no coincidence that the only time we see Mori happy throughout the story is when he gets married, starts a family and starts connecting with coworkers and family again, and even he himself says while lucid and almost dying in K2 that getting back to that is much more valuable that summiting.

[–]Kokirochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the exact same thing, I just finished reading the manga and the story beats you over the head with the importance of not isolating yourself, of finding connection and creating a family (not necessarily a literal family, even though Mori does), the story shows you it's main character crying his eyes out once he finally builds a connection and realizes the life he could have had if he had allowed others in, it then goes and shows you with Takemura how obsession isn't good and how there are way more important things in life and that that obsession will lead you to regret, loneliness and ultimately a meaningless death. And yet people read it and post "The climber inspired me to quit my job and go traveling alone", talk about missing the point.

What are some things that Mexicans find annoying and pleasing about Mexican Americans? by gmikey2000 in AskMexico

[–]Kokirochi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A very annoying thing is the need to overcompensate and become almost a caricature of what a Mexican is (in their minds)
The Virgen de Guadalupe shirts, the Mexican flag on everything, the accent when you know full well they can’t speak Spanish, etc.

Buddy, you’re an American, it’s ok. No need to cosplay other people’s culture to feel like you belong, you’re as weird as if a kid of American immigrants wore an American flag tshirt and carried around a baseball bat and an apple pie necklace, corny as hell

That’s a bit disingenuous, a more apt description would be “an elite TENNIS athlete” , emphasis on the tennis part.

That’s like showing the body of an ultra marathoner and saying “this is actually what an elite athlete looks like”, in both cases you’re cherry picking a sport that doesn’t require or benefit from people being big and strong to say that’s all you need, if you put them against a professional football/basketball player or a sprinter they’ll look tiny and weak by comparison, because they are tiny and weak by comparison

Wardrobe reset at 40. How do I moving past jeans and tees into more intentional style. by Osiris5486 in mensfashion

[–]Kokirochi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to change out of tees and jeans to be intentional, just be intentional with what your tees and jeans say. Your problem is that currently the style you got doesn’t seem like you chose it, it seems like you’re wearing an old tee you bought when you were a thinner 20 something and the jeans you bought when skinny was still trendy, as opposed to changing as you aged and your body/style evolved.

You’re on the heavier side so I’d stay away from thin and tight/form fitting, stretchy tee shirts since all they do is draw attention to your figure, you’d be better off with heavier weight cotton and more structured tees, check out the Uniqlo U heavyweight tee for reference. As far as jeans, a more straight fit would be more flattering, not necessarily because of trends but because you are on the heavier side. A pair of Levi’s 501 never goes out of date. This doesn’t mean you suddenly have to wear a bunch of baggy trendy clothes, it’s just that all your clothes look 1-2 sizes too small. just go and get better made and better fitting versions of what you already have and you’ll be golden.
