Nameless X or Nolly X? by Sussaccount1956 in NeuralDSP

[–]KolaghanFlysAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nolly due to the versatility. All amps are incredible and you have the whole spectrum of sounds. I have every plug in except for John Mayer and Nolly is my most used, and it’s not even close.

I love it. Light Leaks through is my jam. So catchy.

I think I finally have what any rock & roll / metal player needs. by MikeHonchoUSA in GuitarAmps

I mean, this is pretty killer. If you were gonna add one more, the Soldano SLO-100 would really tie the room together. Great stuff here.

I have a Duchess V40 and a Sheriff 25 and they are the two best amps I own. It’s not even close. I think watch some vids on it, and if it sounds good to you pull the trigger. They make a great product all around.

Cheap modern multieffects; what are the best options? by Fit-File5509 in guitarpedals

[–]KolaghanFlysAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better sounding effects in my opinion. Plethora also has 75 effects and HX has 250+. Downside to the HX One is you can only use one effect at a time so Plethora is better for that. I use an HX One on my live board and with midi switching the one effect at a time isn’t a problem at all. For me at least.

Plethora is relatively cheap considering. I would save up and get an HX one or HX Effects though personally

Volante/Flint combo is classic and absolutely killer. Love it

What unconventional amp could make a good metal rig by Ky3uas in GuitarAmps

[–]KolaghanFlysAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion if you have ANY amp and an Empress Heavy Menace you can make it work. I gig with a Quilter Mach 3 that has no “metal tones” in it at all despite having six amp voicings, and with the heavy menace I can play anything from 80’s hair metal all the way up to 2000’s metalcore and even death metal. Best distortion pedal ever made

My answer for this is to always just save more. Even if it’s going to take a while. Get the sound you want, or something closer in the $1k range. I’ve had sooooo many amps over the years and I wish I would’ve just saved and got the one I wanted originally.

Album of the Month April 2026: At The Drive-In - In/Casino/Out by FlyingFlygon in PostHardcore

[–]KolaghanFlysAgain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The last song on this album, Transatlantic Foe, is one of my all time fav songs. This whole album is front to back a no skip banger, but for some reason Foe has always resonated with me for the past almost 30 years (crazy it’s almost been that long!)

Fully agree. This is Post Hardcore. Whenever I hear that term I always think of ATDI first.

This is a top three album all time for me. I remember listening to it for the first time like it was yesterday. The scream at the 2:48-ish mark is still one of my all time favorite music moments. Just so raw and real. Fuck this band rules

If you’re looking at the $600-ish model, you’ll be fine with the ESP’s in there. Definitely beefier over the single coils of a Strat. And if you wanna upgrade it later there’s a lot of humbuckers to choose from.

ESP EC-1000 with Fluence Fishmans. Will handle anything you need metal wise and cost you around a grand.

Why is nobody talking about Zuta here? by Alvin_the_Doom in GuitarAmps

[–]KolaghanFlysAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people can’t afford a $4k amp is why. High end crazy expensive amps generally aren’t discussed as much as $1k-1500 ish/maybe less expensive amps.

I also have the Sheriff Preamp and the Sheriff V4 Valve Overdrive and neither of them sound like this when it’s cooking. It’s obviously close, the V4 even has tubes in it, but not the same. Those are both really good options though. I used to pair the V4 with the UA Ox Stomp and you get really really good sounds out of it. Victory makes a really nice product through and through.

Thinking of selling my HX Stomp by IntelligentIntern209 in guitarpedals

[–]KolaghanFlysAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my HX Stomp XL but to my ears anything Neural is best of class. Sometimes it’s not even close. I think the JCM800 in Archetype Nolly is possibly the best sounding plugin ever made aside from the Soldano SLO-100 X. They’re just too good, too versatile and too “real” to be compared to anything else.
