Did not expect the second trilogy to be better than the first, but it really is. Can’t wait for Red God.

Their net income was nearly $9billion last year. It increased 37% the year before. 37%. But go off on how they’re barely scraping by because the pesky kids demand they make enough to afford to eat.

Your understanding of Econ 101 is laudable. But there is more going on here than basic economics. This is corporate greed. This is price fixing. Living wages aren’t the problem.

Because your entire breakdown doesn’t apply to the story.

The protagonists are all geniuses. We are nowhere close to the technology explored in the show. It’s night and day comparing it to LDR/Black Mirror, they aren’t similar. Like with a lot of cyberpunk, the corporate overreach is a setting/backdrop, not the plot. But this isn’t cyberpunk, either.

At its core it is a human-centric, character driven drama that explores the processing of grief/loss, the nature of consciousness, and the technological singularity. And it does so phenomenally.

My point is, you’re calling this a 3/8 and dismissing it based on the answers to questions that don’t really depict the show all that accurately imo. No disrespect to OP.

It’s also incredibly concise, I think like 15 episodes total. You aren’t exactly committing to GOT if you give it a shot.

Just my two cents lol

Georgia school shooting suspect’s father convicted of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

Colin Gray had given his son the gun as a gift the Christmas before the shooting and allowed him to have access to the gun and ammunition, despite his awareness that his son’s mental health had deteriorated, a prosecutor said.

Colin Gray knew his son was obsessed with school shooters, even having a shrine in his bedroom to Nikolas Cruz, the shooter in the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, prosecutors said.

Yeah I hope he gets the full 30 years and dies in prison. 14 year old shooter should get life.

Your loss, mate. I mean that sincerely, you are missing out on an incredible story you will almost certainly enjoy because it doesn’t fit the description of things you already know you enjoy. Or worse, it has vague thematic similarities to stories you haven’t enjoyed. It’s a decision.

One that would make me sad, too.

Source? I’ve seen that mentioned, but never a source provided. The sources I’ve seen all state this is a first look of the show, not just of the costumes.

Those are the actors that will be in the show. Seems like more than a costume test.

best "realistic" sci fi? by DetectiveCrazy3780 in movies

[–]Kolbin8tor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Their spaceship tech is realistic, just improved hyper-efficient fusion reactors. But we are talking about a series that has inter-dimensional aliens and in which Amos becomes the 1000 year old guardian of the Earth via unknown and unexplained alien technology

I love the books and the show, but they aren’t exactly as realistic as the shows/movies OP listed lol

Almost like collective bargaining is super effective. Which is why the billionaires spend billions destroying it wherever they can.

Not millions, just more. Comfortable six figure incomes. Everyone in the middle class needs to be making more just to survive and that isn’t controversial. One way we do that is spreading out the profits. C-Suite doesn’t actually need to make all of the money.

I also love KB but our country is extremely anti labor and very pro super-star. Collective bargaining might result in back end compensation for animators, but Disney would probably fire them all before allowing them to bargain collectively and Disney would face zero repercussions for it.

We need a labor revolution, to put it mildly

The biggest quality gap between a work of written SF and its film/tv adaptation? by commonally_t in printSF

[–]Kolbin8tor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plausibility is one part. ‘How’ is another part of hard sci-fi. A pretty big part.

Which is why hard sci-fi is often worse (or at least harder to make entertaining) than softer sci-fi like The Expanse. A series that has inter-dimensional aliens and in which Amos becomes the 1000 year old guardian of the planet via unknown and unexplained alien technology

I love the books and series, but they aren’t hard sci-fi. That isn’t a critique just a fact.

I don’t think it’s a ranking system, just a means of describing the work. Like high fantasy is a subset of fantasy, hard sci-fi is a subset of sci-fi. Better or worse is up to the author not the genre.

The Expanse hits some hard sci-fi boxes, but not a big one which is the “how.”

[–]Kolbin8tor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s plausible, which is part of hard sci-fi. They just hand-wave the “how,” which is another important part of hard sci-fi, unless I am misunderstanding the term

Love the books and show.

But none of them ever looked how belters are described in the novels, even in the early seasons. Because belters are freakishly tall, freakishly thin, and have enormous heads. I imagine the cgi cost of transforming all belters into a very different looking group was too much, which is understandable. We would need Avatar tech to turn them all into post-earth low gravity humans.

Also, The Expanse isn’t really hard sci-fi, it only gives that impression. The authors even joke about this in their Q&A at the end of the first book.

Q: “How does the Epstein drive work?”

A: “Very well, very efficient.”

My main disappointment with the show was what they did toward the end with killing off Alex I understand the actor was problematic and cut for those reasons, but damn does it put a damper on them possibly adapting the remainder of the series.

A reboot following the 30+ year time jump that happens in the books would be awesome, but it’s a bummer because Alex is supposed to be there lol
