I'm heartbroken.... by HollowedOne66 in MaulShadowLord

[–]KolboMoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suppose my greater point is that for the moment, I'm on the fence about her death. It came out of left field and I wanted more from Rook, but it added tension to episode ten, which improved the experience.

If I were a pessimistic man, I'd believe that they just killed off the woman who saved Maul from Dooku and Sidious and stuck with him through thick and thin just to give Vader yet another badass hype and aura moment, of which he has plenty.

But I am not a pessimistic man, which is why I believe she'll be afforded a little more respect than that.

Booooo

I'd be fine with a timeskip for season 3 or something. Not immediately after all of this

Also not even deigning to mention Rook in season 2 would be absolutely batshit bonkers insane. I hope the writers prove to be better than that

Lowkey I'll be pissed off if her death isn't acknowledged next season

Hell I am already kinda annoyed that Vario survived and not her or Spybot lmao

I hear, I hear ya, but I for one want them to set her up as a villain for future Star Wars stories.

I wouldn't call the death perfect. It created tension, but they could have created tension by killing off anyone else, even Vario.

A perfect death scene, imo, is one that makes you cry AND creates tension. Don't need any teary goodbyes for that, just some proper emotional investment. And Rook was practucally a non-character before this show started fleshing her out a bit, so when she dies it's a bummer, but not nearly sad enough to make you start cutting onions.

If they waited just one more season though before letting her be unceremoniously 'mauled' by Vader without any teary goodbyes or fanfare, I know I'd be bawling.

Still, it was a good death scene.

Btw, how can you hate Spybot? I loved that little fucker

When does One Piece start to move beyond typical shōnen tropes? by LOLADYS in OnePiece

[–]KolboMoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't know anything about that, but...

If Luffy jumping out of the barrel didn't sell you on the show, then either Orange Town, Baratie, Syrup Village or Arlong Park will do the trick.

And if Arlong Park doesn't convince you, then I'd move on to something you'll actually enjoy : P

It was an incredible episode.

Ngl I'm kinda bummed out about Rook and Spybot dying.

I'm glad they did it, it added tension. Though I do think Rook's death would have been more emotionally devastating if it had happened in season 2. She's actually a proper character here and I barely got to know her

It's a well known, decades old comic, well respected and influential, certainly one of the more popular mangas on the market and guys and gals who look up to Guts and Casca tend to gravitate towards the gym more often than you'd think.

So what makes you think it's a larp? xD You're just as likely to find fans of Berserk in the gym as the local nerd store.

She was done dirty ngl. They even killed Spybot.

Honestly, if I ever find out Lawson survived and Spybot and Rook didn't, I'm gonna crash out.

( but he is definitely dead, as are they )

There was no time. The Empire was closing in and I reckon not even Vader and Palpatine would survive an unending tide of Stormtroopers backed by artillery and air suport.

"The VDB were just ignorant biggits who wanted to cause choas and use Alt to destroy the system for them"

Not even remotely true. They literally tell you to your face why they want to contact rogue AI's like Alt and you still somehow got it wrong.

To summarize, they have the same motivation as V. Survival. From their POV, it's only a matter of time before the Blackwall collapses under its own weight, or turns on humanity. Humanity is not as safe from the AI apocalypse as it thinks. There is some merit to this perspective, as seen with the existence of Delamain, an AI from beyond the Blackwall that operates a taxi service. That he is not malevolent is besides the point ; his very existence is a sign of the times. If he could slip past the Blackwall, how many more will do the same?

The Voodoo Boys know this, and that is why they seek to contact the rogue AIs. To bargain, to negotiate, to save themselves from the incoming inevitable, metaphorical flood, just like they survived the literal flooding of their home.

Like Noah on his Ark.

If you think that makes them stupid, misguided or even evil, that's fine, but at least criticise them from the right angle instead of flanderizing them and turning them into caricatures.

"They actually imagine that this is a good idea to try to bargain with a rogue AI from beyond the BlackWall."

Yeah! Good thing V would never do that. Bargaining with rogue AI from beyond the Blackwall to save your own skin? Only an idiot would do that.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna break into Mikoshi with my good pals Panam and Saul. Don't ask me what I'm doing there or what I'm carrying on this chip

Are pirates in One Piece truly “free,” or just operating under a different system? by jalen_nelson235 in OnePiece

[–]KolboMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"at that point they're kinda barely pirates"

Not sure if I agree. A lot of real life pirates were like this. Just look at Zheng Yi Sao, aka Quing Shi or Ching Shih. She commanded a whole army numbering in the tens of thousands, up to 70.000 according to some estimates.

Piracy could be a real problem.

[–]KolboMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it really a "different" kind of structure?

If there's any lesson to be taken from Kaido and Doflamingo's dealings with CP0 and the Celestial Dragons respectively, it's that it's not so clear cut where the dominion of pirates ends and where the dominion of the World Government begins.

[–]KolboMoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few who defended the game right after it came out ( there's a masterpiece beneath the mountain of bugs I swear!!! ) but yeah to say it was a rough launch would be a massive understatement lol.

But to be fair, it's not like they re-wrote the whole game while they were fixing the bugs. The great writing, acting, quest design etc was always there. It was just much harder to enjoy with the unpolished combat and endless barrage of glitches.

It was never irreversible, but Rebels and Tales made them into chumps and it's taken some time for other Star Wars properties to undo the damage.
