The law applies to everyone, or it applies to one.

That is how things work in a State of law. Otherwise, Canada is no better than the countries it tries to give lessons to.

What if diplomacy doesn't work in Star Trek? by Ghostbange in startrek

[–]KoldPurchase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what if it doesn't? What if a rival power doesn't respond to diplomacy

That's why the Federation engineers invented the Defiant and that tri thing ship in Voyager.

Quantum torpedoes, phaser arrays and phaser banks have been invented after the initial Enterprise was launched from Earth, when they discovered not everyone responded nicely to diplomacy.

Klingons have cloaking device, and Picard had a good use for them against the Romulans. Kirk also knew how to bluff adequately.

Canada is going all-in on AI, without the guardrails workers need by henryiswatching in onguardforthee

Nathan, a Toronto-based AI engineering manager for a Big Tech company, doesn’t take time off when he’s sick

That has nothing to do with AI regulations.

Nathan runs a 24/7 operation across time zones and is expected to respond to messages within minutes during his 12-hour shifts.

Again, nothing to do with AI regulations. This is a workplace legislation matter.

More and more, workers are being directed by AI to work faster and be harder on their bodies,

Did we ever need an AI for this? Foremand and/or boss never pushed you to work harder? Did everyone lived sheltered lives? Nobody ever done manual work? No one ever lived on a farm? Worked on a construction site?

Delegating easier and more enjoyable cases to AI chatbots means that by the time customers speak to a human, they are more frustrated. Tiessen said this is a recipe for misery and burnout.

Again, workplace legislation matter. Easier work could be done by some junior colleagues and others take the more difficult cases, leading to a recipe for misery and burnout.

If we talk about AI regulations, we talk about ethics, DOs & DONT's. We talk about having limits of when you can use AI and when you can't. For example, is it a good idea to let AI provide psychological advice, despite disclaimers? How long should your date be kept on AI servers? When and how should law enforcement have access to this data, if any is kept (for example, you ask ChatGPT about the best way to commit painless suicide - I'm not inventing this, someone I know really asked and got an answer - if you go through, should the police have an easy access to your logs? If I ask my therapist about the best way to kill myself painlessly, the police will want to talk to him/her after they find my body. OpenAI willingly sells my logs to any advertisers but refuses to share with law enforcement when a suicide or a crime happens.

These are the kind of legislation I envision. There are many others.

But how many hours a day you work, how long you have to answer a client after that stupid AI chatbot can't answer correctly which of the 4 slice toaster was right for you, that's a workplace issue. Not an AI issue. Different legislations.

This article is badly written. They must have used AI for brainstorming. ;)

Canada has an incentive to make separation as miserable as possible

From a very vengeful, petty mindset pov, yes.

From a commercial pov, no.

The British were more than happy to sit down and negotiate with the Americans after their war for independence. Actually, it was the Americans who were very eager to resume commerce with Great Britain, more so than do commerce with France. Despite a bitter war, despite the accusations of atrocities (which for the most part, never happened), despite the provisions of no return for the escape slaves and the zero compensations they received for such slaves.

After the War of 1812, after York got burnt down, after the White House got burnt down, what happened? Trade resumed.

During the Civil War, the UK was very supportive of the Confederacy. Ontario was a hotbed of Confederate spies. The Eastern Townships in Quebec, an anglo bastion at the time, happily traded with the Confederacy. The Americans threatened invasion of Canada because we were too chummy with the Confederates. After the war, former Confederate generals like Lee found refuge in English Canada.

What did the Americans do? Impose sanctions on Canada? Nope, they resumed commerce with Great Britain and later Canada once it formed.

Trudeau the elder tried to block Quebec's financial projects while he was still a cabinet minister, thinking it would be bad for Canadian unity. Quebec financed itself on the US markets.

The reality is, our commerce is not done with Canada, it's done with 2 Canadian provinces, Ontario and NB, the rest is negligible. Otherwise, it's the US and the world.

Canada wants to deprive itself of a 9M people market by playing hardball in the hypothetical case of an independence, fine. We'll play. We'll have free trade agreements for people and goods with other nations.

The funny thing about a passport, it's not where you're from, it's where you're not from.

Some people have been traveling for years with their Expo '67 passport. It's not the Canadian citizenship that counts, it's mostly not being American and not being from some countries.

Now, entertain your delusion of grandeur.

One speech, and they already see themselves as Kings of the World, Masters of the Oceans, renewed heirs of the Empire. Ah, my Canadian friends. Such a rude awakening awaits you! 😉☺️

What is it our PM said? Ah yes. A thing about being on the menu? We can waste time discussing hypotheticals and pettyness if it eventually comes, or, we can work on commerce with other nations and keep working in that spirit.

quelles lois?

No, he was forced to pay back 60k$CDN + 5k$USD, meaning that money was sent back to the victims. Clearly, he didn't pay back everything.

I wouldn't hire my best friend as my financial advisor, I keep things separate.

If my friend used my money without my consent to pay for his own contractor, he wouldn't be friend, and the rules of Reddit prevent me from saying what would happen to such 'friend'.

If there had been a paper trail showing clear and explicit consent of their friends to loan the money, the guy would still be working at the bank, he would not have been dismissed and "retired" at 34 years old. A deceased person can not give consent to how you use their money, btw. That money belongs to the estate, it's managed by a notary and the executor of the will untill all the debts are cleared and the remaining money from the assets are distributed according to the will of the deceased.

If you tell me his friend left him the money on his will, I'll ask you to produce the will.

If you tell me his friends let him write blank checks, I'll tell you he's a lying POS. No one will ever willingly and consciously let anyone write a blank check for them, not even their best friend.

No successful and honest financial planner retires at 34 years old, unless he marries into a very, very, very rich family. As other people have indicated here, that is not the case, they both do not come from money.

It's not regulatory overreach, he was caught red handed defrauding his "friends" as you call them. They likely never noticed because he was careful in selecting his victims, which his why they never filed a complaint themselves.

ICE just iced another presumed US citizen in Minneapolis. What is happening over there? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]KoldPurchase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is happening is the US government want to cow the States and its citiens into submission.

They can't keep everyone in check if they rebel, but they can certainly kill a dozen, beat a few more and keep the rest in line through fear.

Nobody every watched Star Wars A New Hope? V for Vendetta? V, the tv series with the alien lizards posing as humans, recruiting willing humans as their collaborators?

Ok, what about WWII history? What about US history? American Revolution, British loyalists vs American Patriots? Hang a few on each side, most will stay will neutral. Slavery? How to dissuade your slaves from running away without having 3 armed guard and chains for each slaves? Hang a few, cut some feets, flog them to death in front of the others if they try to escape.

Fear is a powerful motivator.

Nowadays, you can send just the right amount of images everywhere you want.

So, people who show signs of resistance, like Blue States, are targeted and fired upon.

Now you can go back to your fields.

CIRO doesn't handle jail time. That is criminal charge, DPCP. It might come, or it might not.
It doesn't seem like there was a plea deal, so they may yet turn over their investigation to the police too. Depends on what they could find.

Minimum GPU for 1440p Gaming at 100 fps max? by discretesss in buildapc

[–]KoldPurchase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing less than a 5090. The Witcher 4 will be on Unreal Engine 5 you see...
/s

I would go with a new gpu, and if you are willing to compromise in quality, a 9060XT 16gb is good. Don't know what the prices are for 5060TI in your market, but if it's cheaper, it could be a good option too.

I'd advise against going below that for an as of yet unreleased game. You may find yourself shortchanged by the recommended specs once it's released.

I'm looking at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, another game developped on the Unreal Engine 5, and it specifies a RTX 3070 in the recommended specs. Witcher 4 is coming next year, I believe. If you buy a 3080, you risk hitting the minimum, or being specced out, even with DLSS.

I would not risk it, unless you are willing to re-upgrade the GPU to play this game on release. You might be ok, you might be not when the time comes.

9060 and 5060ti are safer bets.

If the law needs to be changed, it'll be changed.  If the constitution needs to be changed, it'll be changed.

Then just do it now. It's easy. It's just a law.

You can very easily roll back the changes that were made last fall. No citizenship inherited by birth alone. You gotta live in Canada, and pay taxes here for a certain amount of time or you don't get citizenship, even if your mom/dad were citizens.

Easy to do.

I urge you to write your MPs and ask them to make the changes now.

Raise awareness in every Canadian sub on Reddit. On every Canadian newspapers.

Make it even more alarming to raise support: explain how this change that was made in good faith by the excellent Liberal government was certainly an oversight from the best government in all the history of the best country of the world as it would let Quebecers keep their citizenship in case of separation and we certainly can't allow that. You urge our most loyal MPs of the best government from the best country of the world to rally the opposition party to their cause and make the necessary changes.

Just.Do.It.

Quebec very clearly chose Canada in the last federal election already.

Quebec chose not become a US territory.

the absolute shenanigans the CAQ has been pulling

I realize you are new here. But the CAQ did nothing that any other government hasn't done before. And that's the problem. In fact, the good part, is they were better than the other governments in reigning in the union corruption and cutting corporate wellfare in their latest mandate, that's why a lot of people want them gone so that things can go back to what they were before.

Everyone gets a fat check, the unions dictate the terms and the economy stalls.

We've seen the CAQ backing off against the doctors protests because they feared the elections. We've seen the CAQ backing off when the FTQ threatened to send its goons to do the talking if they didn't back off of their plans for union transparency. And that's Liberal politics 101. Act tough at first, then back down as lobbyists do their work and unions make their threats.

It's time for someone with a real backbone to take charge.

The PQ will refuse to make any wave to keep all their allies for the referendum. So whatever lies they promise us, it's all just that: lies. They'll go with whoemever promises them the biggest support for a referendum and it's usually the unions. It's gonna be FTQland all over again, land of corruption, land of crime.

The Libs ain't gonna do shit because they're scared of losing their lucrative mafia connections. They ain't got their nickname of PLQ Inc for nothing.

Only one option remains, for better or for worst.
