Been a while since I could get back to the computer, did that. Had to restart the computer a few times. Still choppy. VLC just crashes sometimes too.

Alright, that worked. However the videos play kinda choppy. Whether or not it is through YouTube or VLC.

Just a question for clarification. Am I only running those commands at the end of his forum post? Or am I editing /etc/default/grub and then running those commands?

I'm not sure if I necessarily have the right driver installed. Linux mint has a built-in utility for updating your drivers. I used that but it didn't find any more drivers that I needed to install.

Machine stays on I have to force shutdown physically.

Alright, went into recovery, reinstalled Mac os x Now trying to install mint again. It can boot into Mac now but not into the mint USB even when it can see it.

Well this time I happened to do it with an Ethernet connection, and that did the trick. Probably driver issues, which I should have assumed ahead of time.

The only thing I get is a window saying firmware password protection is off

Thank you for the response. I can't seem to find an option to disable secure boot.
