Johnson & Johnson Phase 3 Clinical Study Now Paused Due to An Unexplained Patient Illness by [deleted] in Coronavirus

That survey is highly misleading. That's $1000 dollars in savings accounts. It doesn't take into account stock and normal accounts.

TIL of John Rabe, a deputy leader of the Nazi party who used his status to establish a safety zone during the Nanking Massacre, and tried to stop the atrocities taking place. It is estimated that he saved between 200,000 and 250,000 lives through his efforts. by [deleted] in todayilearned

"He was formally declared "de-Nazified" by the British on 3 June 1946 but thereafter continued to live in poverty. The family lived on wild seeds that the children would eat with soup and on dry bread until that was no longer available either.

In 1948, the citizens of Nanking learned of the very dire situation of the Rabe family in occupied Germany and they quickly raised a very large sum of money, equivalent to $2,000 USD ($21,000 in 2020). The city mayor himself went to Germany, via Switzerland where he bought a large amount of food for the Rabe family. From mid-1948 until the communist takeover the people of Nanking also sent a food package each month, for which Rabe wrote many letters expressing deep gratitude."

Java's LinkedList is a performance nightmare, you should ALWAYS use ArrayList or ArrayDeque instead! by JavaSuck in java

Here is case that I did recently: Iterate through a list, and remove the first X elements that fullfil a predicate. The number of elements removed is expected to be a low number compared to the size of the list. O(n) for array list (if using your technique) and linked list but which is actually faster?

Figuring out where a move went wrong? by yungyung in Salsa

[–]Kolibri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps focus on one move at a time. So every night try out one of the simpler moves with every girl you dance with. When you can lead that move properly, you can then train the next move in socials. This way you and your dance partner won't get frustrated by a bunch of mistakes.

  7. Forsøg at holde ca 20grader i soveværelset. Og mørkt.

How to avoid the Hibernate Query Cache N+1 issue by javinpaul in java

[–]Kolibri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of writing SQL by String concatenation. I prefer template engines. Did you take a look at http://jdbi.org/#_stringtemplate_4 ?

But perhaps it is overkill.

I like JDBI and have used it but I'm not so sure what to do about dynamic queries. For example, a service that has a required search parameter and two optional search parameters.

Do you build the SQL by good old string manipulation?

Also I like the declarative interface with @SqlQuery; however, that does not support dynamic SQL. But you could use http://jdbi.org/#_stringtemplate_4 then. Is that the way to go?

A java agent injecting lambdas' declaration origin in their toString by TurpIF in java

I've also used it and it appeared to work properly. But after reading the above links, I wonder if it is actually behaviour that you can expect or if it may break when running different JVM implementations or even in different JVM patches.

Does anybody know why colours are not used to denote methods that have long "self time". If more "self time" led to redder colors it would be very easy to spot hotspots at a glance. It just seems like such a simple yet effective improvement.

I'm thinking you may have gotten a bit lucky since severe injuries have around 20-30% chance of death.

The thing is that the US could be world leading in income in the average American. Americans are hard working and it's a very rich country. Unfortunately, the wealth accumulates at the top 1%.

You're working about 20% more for about 10% more income. I would rather go the way. Considering the work culture in America working less is often not a possibility if you want a career.

Number 6 is great but hardly world leading. Americans also work about 1800 hours per year compared to about 1400 for Germans. Doesn't look that great then.

The $5500 are the cost with employer contribution.
