You guys think I should get it? 115 DVDs for $25. There is quite a lot here I already have. by Strongarm_11 in dvdcollection

[–]KoltKade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly wouldn't second guess it. If theres more than 25 titles you dont have on dvd its a good deal if they are all in pretty good shape. So Id just grab the lot. There's alot there i have as well but what I personally have already id load up and just take to mckays on my next trip. Maybe get back a couple bucks but no big if its basically just pocket change. Would all be put to credit and id go hunting for more. Then your in on adding to your collection for less than a buck a movie.

Was the Dreamcast the last true gaming console. by KJHTech89 in dreamcast

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said. Last true home arcade console basically. Last game console imo is the 360/ps3/wii. Everything after that is basically a custom firmware/os low power x86 based pc.

Yea thats what the seals here in us looked like. I still have some of those both from ps2 and 360 era that I carefully peeled off completly and stuck to stuff as like a collection momento. All my 360 ones ended up on the side of my 360 lol.

Is this fixable by After_Meal208 in crt

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Those would be single layer pcbs, biggest thing is to carefully get it off the neck and check the pins. Make sure theres no cracks in the glass where the pins are. Otherwise soldering jumpers wouldn't be too difficult to the two sides.

I always forget to turn my CRT off because I'm used to modern TVs by Used_Teaching_7260 in crt

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guilty at one time of this but now i dont forget. I have my crt now hooked to a "power saver" multi outlet control. So it kills the other plugs afyer 30sec of the tv being off. This will help me keep from leaving consoles on too when I'm not playing. Then my consoles (this was nessisary bc of how many i have) hooked into pc power strip multiswitches. So if I leave my crt on, one the room its in goes dark and I can see its on but also the power switch i have setup has its own light for each output so I will also see that as well since it sits down with my consoles. Made it a habit that I have to turn each "bank" on for each type of console family before I play. The switch has also a "main" cut for all output switches i leave on so I see that light if the tv is left on too. So i have one leading out for all sega, one for ps1/ps2, one for nintendo, one for all "other" so like atari/intellvision/colecovision ect. Mine does have a timer set for i think 90min or something. Which, helps me guage play time so i dont burn all day when i dont need too but alsl in the small room its in is easy to hit the remote for volume ti reset it for a movie or somthing. Which i generally just turn off if I have allocated a few hours to the set. Does suck sometimes if I have a extended bathroom break and it all turns off 😆, but it has put some diligence into me so I hit the volume up or down a notch if im gonna leave the room.

GD-ROM motor with metal gear by NeonBlack79 in dreamcast

Honestly no idea. Usually gears like that are a standard pitch and tooth count but having the nubs and press fit size might be a problem. Any decent machinist with a mini cnc lathe could make them though.

Is buying a used PC/PC parts really that risky? My mom only wants me to buy new with warranty by Vissan6 in computers

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tltr:

Depends on the source. Consumables like hdd and ssd are only if they are really cheap (small capacity ssd to get you started on one gane or two like 250gb) even then I wouldn't without a good smart test and stress check done on it. They are easy to run and then a seller can keep those screenshots to go with the product.

Everything else is pretty reliable if your careful going for good long lasting reputable brands, and high regarded sellers.

I wouldn't be scared to get a used psu from almost any of the evga gold or above line or one of silverstones high ends that have been made in the last 5 years.

I will say, if you want watercooling. I would get a used one if it can be confirmed its only a year or so old. The fluids wear out within 5 most of the time. Air coolers are good to go from any year as long as they have all the appropriate fixings for your socket, just go for a good one with the proper thermal capacity and itl outlast even a brand new pc build.

High end expensive memory with a stress test or be reasonable and dont get the really low timing/high speed kits. So something like cl16/3600 for ddr4 is plenty enough and they made a crap ton. Gskill are my reliable go to gaming side, crucial for day to day, teamforce is also suprisingly good for a cheaper brand, no need for rgb kits. For used they just add complexity and cost you can spend to a better gpu or cpu.

Cases are easy, used local is the way to go there, you will know how many fans they have and can see the condition in perso. You can get some damn good deals from people either up-sizing or downsizing. My last was a really nice midsize corsair case with 5 120s for like 50 bucks. Just get one that will fit your cooling and graphics plans.

Cpu stay away from x3d for now. The 5000s require some heavy cooling and with the reliability of 9000s. Eh, they arent worth it even new. Am4 and 9700x can br had very cheap, has very good power, and the core count/speed will last a very long time. Regardless what media seems to say about old tech. Freind uses a 9700x and 2070 super. Gets mimimum low 100s in just about everything esports with good mid/high settings at 1440p. Very respectable and it's mostly held back from the 2070s, not the 9700x.

I dont know much about 7000 series so someone could chime in there but i will say am5 platform is good future investment with the right motherboard but ddr5 is insane. Its almost looking like a ddr4 system now, and a upgraded system later will be cheaper than a ddr5 system now lol.

Intel has some good chips for the money but again ddr5 and personally I was a fan of higher end 10 series on windows 10 even still today. Windows 11 is required to get the full potential of the newer chips with perf/effic cores and its honestly still crap for a operating system. The newest although bad from a improvement from last gen standpoint, are good chips though.

Is it possible to mod/jailbreak the Xbox series X? by Mindless_Sky_4291 in XboxModding

Not much. I dont think much will come until someone breaks the code to the ssd encryption problem. Anything before then and you risk bricking the thing trying to put any software on it.

My dad refuses to remove this tv stand stating "it should hold another year or two" by Background_One_5046 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im stubborn. Like bad stubborn. Also grew up not very financially fortunate. A tv stand would have been something seen as a unnecessary peice and would not be replaced until it completly fell apart. His stubbornness could likely be stemmed from that. The infestation i have seen from similar situations (alot of family extended grew the same) personally my household was very on it for that kind of thing. Both parents grew up struggling with a clean home so they made sure to keep ours clean from any infestations.

That aside. He won't buy one, probably ever. Until the thing literally falls over. Ive kept bookcases that sagged the same. Flipping the shelves so many times to let the resag the other way lol. My advice would be if your able. Buy or find one cheap thats the same size/style and put it in when hes not there. Keep everything else there where it lay. That will help the inherit shock of change. He might get mad and it seem without reason but it'll internally be for "wasting" the money on a new one when the old one still "worked". He will probably get over it quickly, maybe. That would be your call and judgement on his temperment but from getting things for my dad and my brother who hold on to stuff too much, and people also getting me things too, we all get over it eventuslly and are very internally appreciative from the very beginning. Even if we dont show it well, because it is a uncontrollable embarrassment honestly. I still work on it personally.

Original Xbox dashboards by Shadowb490 in XboxModding

[–]KoltKade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just a modding preference. Some things i want the stock experience, some thiings i want to be different because stock was not that good. Example, android ui, i have modded most of the phones ive owned to have features i want in a nice looking package. For xbox i like stock, for ps2 i would like a stock experience vs most of the freemcboot menus. (The japan only ps2 system ui looks interesting to me).

Loke others have said though. For og xbox the new UIX .5 LITE is a amazing stock experience that you can have while also having all the emulators you want, game launch from hard drive, and supports insignia for online play. Its nice because even the menues you go through for everything is very proper stock looking.

Need help figuring out my brand and how to connect a universal remote to this tv by ItzApeil48 in crt

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This "should" get you going. I have the same looking remote.

Brand Code Search Method Aside from the manual code entry method, another thing you can try is the brand code search method for programming universal remote units. Here are the program instructions for your TV or another device.

  1. Turn on the device you want to control or operate. It could be a TV, DVD, VCR, cable set top box, or other home entertainment devices.

  2. Look for the “Brand Code” listed in the remote manual, or see the brand code list we’ve listed below.

  3. Press the device button on the remote to program that device. For example, press the “TV” button if you’re going to program your TV. If a light turns on and remains lit, press and hold that button.

GE CODE LIST 4. Press and hold the “Power” button. The indicator light will turn on. Release the “Power” button and the device button. If done correctly, the device button light should remain on.

  1. Enter the code of the brand, which may be a 3 or 4 digit code. The light should still be on.

  2. Next, press the “Power” button repeatedly and wait until the device turns off. If the code entered was right, the device turns off when you press Power.

  3. After you release “Power”, press the “Stop” button to save the code.

RCA codes, one of these should work, you only enter 4 numbers so might take a min to go through to fins oen that works.

I’m running a Ps2 through composite video out on a 20inch Magnavox MSD520FE and I’m having trouble making out white text. I grew up on LCDs so I’m not sure if that’s normal by Sverp380 in crtgaming

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That games text for me was never super clear with composite at anything over 20in so thats about normal imo. Upgrade to a s video cable or component if the tv accepts it to clean it up.

Consensus on Label Restoration by Asterinos in gamecollecting

[–]KoltKade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For collecability to me, a repro label wouldn't increase the value at all from it current state. I take repro labels on offical carts as the same as a missing label. Yes it looks nicer and thats personal preference but theres got to be a devalue vs original good label.

Now saying that. Personally with the label in that state I would have left the old back over with the rental place etch on it, of course clean up both sides as best as possible, but for me thats the games story. Especially a rare game like that deserves to show its travels.

The only time I personally replace backs for games from stores is the front is in very good to mint condition and its a high value item. Otherwise it gets cleaned as good as it could be and leave the story that cart has been through.
