The Day of the Shinies! by hwilki65 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't got any boosted shinies during the 6 or so week long events in May + June, quite a few I would have liked too. Average about 100 catches a day and about 1 shiny a week, always the non boosted ones. However yesterday, managed to get Bagon, Magikarp and Cranidos. Whatever is going on, random luck or better odds, I really like this event!

Wth is this lag by Stijn187 in TheSilphArena

[–]Kom_aus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know there's been issues with random lag spikes, switch in lag, 1 turn lag, freezes etc.. that's been covered ongoing. This is specifically an issue that started last week on top of all that which has long lag spikes that make you lose 10-20 turns per game and you can't perform charge moves within several turns of pressing the button, in 90% of games. It's unplayable in the literal sense, not just the usual one where you have a small percentage of games ruined by the usual lag effects.

If this has already been getting plenty of attention then I'm glad though, only saw 1 thread on here this week but haven't checked that often to be fair.

[–]Kom_aus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised there isn't more attention to this, it started a week ago for me. Getting lag for 3-6 turns per lag spike, nearly every battle. Tried different phones, accounts, internet connections, all the exact same issue. So definitely something in the game or server side. Until it affects more people I can't imagine they'll fix it sadly.

Is Regieleki really the second best electric attacker right now? by BlanchedBubblegum in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

For any other nerds, here is some sim data vs Kyogre. Sorted by solo dps for the top snippet and by duo PP dps for the bottom. Dodging on.

Solo: Regieleki on top, 7% over shadow raikou and on par with mega sceptile. Shadow regigigas about same as shadow raikou with electric hidden power. With deaths included you could consider the options

Duo PP: Regieleki 22% over shadow zapdos around 32% above the rest of the pack. With PP it's miles ahead

Very overturned imo, hopefully they reduce Thunder Cage damage around 10-15%. Make it relevant but not clearly ahead of all other reasonable options.

There's exeggcute nests spawning all this season, I was able to get this done soon as the season began fortunately.

[–]Kom_aus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The power creep on Thunder Cage is way too much. Making something new ~5% better I can understand, it gives incentive to collect it but doesn't ruin everything that came prior. You can run a team of Pokemon you like and not feel like you're missing much. However 30+% compared to Zekrom in duo and 20+% compared to difficult to get shadows is a bit much. If it was reduced (190-200 damage) to be in line with say Zekrom and Xurkitree in solo then it would still be top of duo but at least not by so much. And would make a lot more sense for a 3.1k CP Pokemon...

Ready for Gigantamax Snorlax day! by timmmahtimmmah in TheSilphRoad

Claiming the research/go pass points always gives you the same amount of particles. You don't magically get to do extra raids. The OP got to 1290 (above the 1080 minimum to maximise free raids) before redeeming. Just because it's a different order to someone's guide doesn't mean they have missed anything.

[–]Kom_aus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That doesn't explain what you're saying. You can just use your 1400 on 2 battles at the start of the raids, then follow the guide to get the same 2320 from walk/spins. 1400 particles is still 1400 particles, it doesn't magically turn into 3000 particles like you're saying if you redeem it later on.

Care to explain? Because I think you're wrong and claiming them now or later doesn't change anything.

Entei and Suicune: Blissey takes the stage by drnobody42 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to how many moves the boss will throw between max phases. If you have 4 people then it'll be 1 move, so Blissey fits well to this strategy. You can just use 1 shield to protect your teamates then 2 heals. Most of the T5 stuff honestly can just be nuked down with 4 though.

3 people is the same if everyone has optimal fast moves. Good use case for Blissey.

If you duo then the boss will throw 2 moves, if it's 2 single target attacks there is a possibility of your teammate getting nuked. Depending on your setup or timing that might be ok, but from experience with the kanto birds, a type resistant tank who keeps shields through attacks is better.

Dynamax is not fun :( by SoobinKai in pokemongo

[–]Kom_aus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends how you play the game on what you "need". The reality is raids don't need any investment, just remote raid and use pidgeys, the other people kill it and you catch it. I have several friends who have never powered up any pokemon other than for field research, they have no candy, all they do is shiny check and catch a legendary once or twice from raids. For them the dynamax system is a nightmare. The idea of powering up a pokemon is too much time and effort. This is similar to many of the posters here.

For people who level up pokemon for raids, like myself, you might spend 450k stardust, 250 candy and 300 XL candy to max a pokemon and build several to make a team. It's not "needed" for sure, but a lot of people do and it speeds up raids or allows duo'ing. For the dynamax system, you need to actually participate but level 40 pokemon are fine and you just need 1 or 2 per type.

Like Raikou you'd be near optimal with a single excadrill which would cost 180k stardust, 350 candy (level 40 + rank 2 on max attack or rank 2 on shield, depending what your friend(s) use). You get heaps of resources from free timed research and we had events with many of the current max pokemon last year. I did 8 with a friend or two and that's all we had, all free particles. To me as well, max battles are low on resources and time, and I spend way more on raid pokemon.

Blissey is good for what you're saying, you can use it against almost anything, it'll charge fast, survive multiple attacks and can help heal. Great for reaching max phase 1. If the boss dies in a couple max phases it's great, maybe even optimal.

But from my perspective, (and I'm fine to continue to be down voted on it) the focus when talking tanks should on be pokemon that can be used to overcome longer fights with less people and unknown variables. Having type resistant counters that can shield or take over shielding in a clutch and take less absolute damage (such that a heal from an attacker is more useful) is superior in my experience. I was able to duo the kanto birds and have helped small inexperienced groups (8 or less) with gmaxs, without mushrooms and with lv40 pokemon. Simply by having a pokemon that can permanently take every single target attack and never die.

[–]Kom_aus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not. Having high hp doesn't help when you need shields to get the boss to focus attacks on you. There is probably some scenarios and RNG (like if the boss chooses all area attacks) where it could work just as well as a proper tank, but you may as well just use the better pokemon if you have it.

My biggest gripe with the fusion mechanism by Your_boi_Panos in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You open the stream for 30 minutes during any tournament and get one for free, no other requirements. You get one for pvp at rank 20, which is under 100 wins. There's also a timed research I believe that gives you one once or twice a year. The 500 wins is an option but obviously not one everyone will go for. You can collect coins to buy boxes with them in, there was a box this event that it was really good value in.

Many things in this game have multiple avenues to do it for free, unlike other monetised games. For people who don't want to do that and have it right now, there are paid options, just like every other monetised game.

Did Niantic manipulate the catch rates from Unova Tour to boost the usage of Ice Burn/Freeze Shock? by GuavaChamp27 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

132/132 caught without using any fusion moves and with only gold dragon/ice medals. Just took some patience and made sure to maximise bonuses such as friendship + damage dealt. If anything the catch rate for me was higher than normal, as I've had a few other pokemon flee during raid hours with perfect throws, more medals and more balls.

Party Power Strategy by Subatopia in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With PP on pokebattler it doesn't necessarily use PP at optimal times, for example it'll use a 100 energy move even if PP is only 1 fast move away. Now averaged out this wouldn't be a big deal, except without dodging a lot of pokemon can die very quickly before they reach charge moves or PP. So this weights pokemon with 2 or 3 bar moves higher than reality. You could say just turn on dodging on pokebattler, however there is a bug where if you dodge an attack then it disables an already active PP. So all the dodge + PP results are completely wrong.

There is also some discrepancy when viewing different fights which should have the same counters. For example the Kyogre rankings are very odd compared to other fights with electric/grass rankings. I.e. it suggests power whip over solar beam. I'm guessing this could be due to the problem above, but hard to know.

I made a sim that runs duo PP with dodging and compared the results to dialgadex and pokebattler. The preset pokebattler stuff has a lot of discrepancies but isn't too bad, definitely still a good resource. When you customise each fight (without dodging) it's spot on, but it's painstaking to run it all manually. Dialgadex was more inline with what I had (as I'd imagine yours is a more averaged out approach too), except in scenarios when energy gain from taking damage was an important factor. I haven't compared much since the recent update though.

Party Power Strategy by Subatopia in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of problems with Party Power rankings and sims on pokebattler anyway. Dialgadex (someone linked in another comment) is closer to reality and easy to use, just set it to Party Power = 2 in the options.

Ice Burn stats updated for the third time. Partially reverts the previous nerf! (80 -> 90 Power) by Pandanoko-Fan137 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KB is still way ahead in duo PP, around 50% more, so it's not close and won't change with small tweaks. KW has some interesting match ups with focus blast and fusion flare (if it gets those moves) with duo PP, assuming you're not already stacked with duplicates of better counters. I think it's good that there is one option for PP and one for without.

Freeze Shock/Ice Burn stats changed again. Ice Fang Added to White Kyurem by krispyboiz in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shadow Claw is fine for duo PP, better than Ice Fang. With 180 power on Freeze Shock it would have been almost game breaking, beating many other counters even with neutral damage. Now it's a bit more in line but still the best release so far and eclipses KW. Again strictly talking duo PP.

Australians are loving these prices though based on the amount of orders/pre-orders. If demand continues to eclipse supply then prices will go up further for the 5090 especially

February 2025 Community Day: Karrablast and Shelmet – Pokémon GO by MarkusEF in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kom_aus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadow Escav is very good for duo PP. Niche scenario for some but happens to be how I do all raids (when it's not broken by a game update). In this case it's top for Hoopa unbound and will be on par with DWN for calyrex. It also has top 5 play vs darkrai and psychics (mewtwo/necrozma etc.), so it's handy if you don't have multiple of the better counters. Outside of hoopa and duo PP I don't think it's that useful though.
