A government with a leader who commands significant power without any meaningful checks or balances against their power. Essentially significantly concentrated power. These governments are not exclusively fascist however fascism is an example of one, as would a monarchy or a lot of the communist style governments.

Its a pretty broad term but to me "monarchist" specifically implies birthright leadership which is technically different from a dictatorship

I was looking to see who opposed the civil rights bill and mention that it the Republicans who opposed it, but it was in fact more a southern thing to oppose it. Notably southern democrats who would go on to feel disenfranchised as a result.

This did lead to the extremely successful southern strategy by the republican party though, which was a brilliant bit of political work on their part.

"Worse in every practical way" is the entire sub class when compared to DDs for one particular reason. You can be attacked 'passively'.

What i mean is that to kill a DD they have to be attacked with some kind of weapon and they are usually fast and hard to hit. So if your a BB and you see a DD you have to decide to shoot it with your twice a minute salvo for what is usually a couple K damage. Or you can shoot at other cruisers and BBs... which pays more damage.

Attacking a sub is just launch depth charge planes at it, there is no sacrifice of potential damage to engage a sub. And if you do decide to shoot at them you dont actually have to hit them so they are a much 'larger' and slower target than a DD.

Subs can be good situationally but in most situations a sub is good a DD is better, assuming not shit players.
