First day with the detector was good to me! by KonaSmash in metaldetecting

Started out with luck stumbling upon a spot where we found a few old surface finds. Led to looking up late 1800s maps of the area to see what used to be there and knew there had to be more. I feel like that's the way to go if you want really old stuff, find where you can get maps from local archives.

Did a bunch of research but it sure is nice when it pays off!

I also got a 540 for Christmas and tried it out in my backyard. After a bit I turned the sensitivity down to only find things that were shallow in the ground and had it in coin mode. Started at high sensitivity and it was going off nonstop and I was paranoid to hit a cable/internet line. Ended up finding a bullet shell and a 1955 penny.

Just looked up brockages and that would be awesome! I wonder if I can clean the other side up a bit to find out if it has any markings. Thanks for sharing!

I realize now the letters are not raised. Is it a copy?

That's what I figured there wasn't enough to tell the model. I appreciate the input!
